POST TITLE: Sessional Specialist Study Skills Tutor

DEPARTMENT: AccessAbility

RESPONSIBLE TO: Non Medical Helper Team Leader

JOB PURPOSE: To provide academic related support for disabled students including those who have a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) and/or Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).

MAIN DUTIES:

·  To deliver individual study skills tutorials and promote strategies for independent learning.

·  To develop and encourage the use of accessible resources for independent study.

·  To comply with standards set by DSA Quality Assurance Group (QAG) framework and its associated audit process.

·  To use internal electronic reporting and communication systems to maintain accurate and timely records of student support.

·  To attend supervisions, training sessions and team meetings as required.

·  To liaise with Wellbeing Services and wider University college staff as required to ensure high standards of student support.

·  To undertake appropriate continuing professional development activities in order to maintain professional registration and/or accreditation as required by the university for DSA QAG registration.

·  To carry out any other appropriate duties as requested by your line manager.

·  PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential / Desirable
·  Good Honours Degree or equivalent
·  Relevant PG Dyslexia/SpLD qualification
·  Excellent teaching and facilitative skills
·  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
·  Experience of supporting students with varying learning difficulties
·  Competency in IT skills
·  Experience in developing and using learning resources in a range of formats
·  Understanding of the issues for students with disabilities in Higher Education
·  Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to a team / ·  Additional Post graduate qualification in an aspect of learning and teaching
·  Awareness of disability legislation and codes of practice in Higher Education
·  To have undertaken, or be prepared to undertake, relevant training to deliver study skills for students with autism spectrum conditions
