AGM Friday 21st April 2017
This year’s AGM, Prizegiving and Dinner took place at Douglas Park Golf Club in Bearsden and was attended by 50 members and 2 guests.
Simon Blyth, incoming President, extended a warm welcome to members and guests to the AGM and Dinner. A special welcome was given to our guest speakers, Gregor Cannon and Alan Hannah.
Campbell Denholm and Ross Barr were re-elected as honorary treasurer and honorary secretary respectively. Iain McVoy stepped down as Match Secretary. Simon confirmed that he would take on the duties of Match secretary with support from Iain McVoy.
The Speirs Cup was won by Rink B, convener David Graham. The Firth Medal, Rink Medal and Centenary Trophy were all won by Rink C, Convener Alison Barr. The Frame Trophy was won by Rink G, Convenor Janice McIntyre and the Bearsden Bowl was won by Rink E, Convener Valerie Veitch.

- The McKenzie Cup.Great news - the cup has been found - again! The cup is played for annually in a two rink competition against Crossmyloof. It was won again by the Bearsden rinks and we can now get it engraved.
- Club Competitions.The Speirs Trophy was played for in a double round robin format over 14 games. This is our premier competition and has been won this season by Rink B comprising David Graham (convenor), Jenifer Graham, Ian Strathdee, Anne Strathdee, Drew Crawford, Peter Hardern and Jacqui Davidson. A great performance! Rink C won both the Firth Medal and the Rink Medal. Rink G won the Frame Cup and Rink E won the Bowl.
- David Duncan, Our Rink of Valerie, Ian, John and skip Simon lost out in a closely fought semi-final against Partick.
- Allan Cup,After a good performance in the round robin stage, a heavy defeat against Alma in the semi-final was particulary disappointing for Alison, David, Ian and Ross.

- Broadway Trophy Final, 22nd February 2017. Our ladies were victorious. Well done - see below.
- Ladies v Gents, 25th February, Greenacres. Gents retain the Centenary Medal - photo below.
- Kirkwood Cup, 3rd March,2017. 2.20 v Partick and 6.00pm v Ski Club.
- Kinross Weekend, 3rd - 5th March,2017. Five rinks entered for this bonspiel. Simon Blyth's rink were runners up.
- Brechin & Allcomers Trophies, 5th March, 2017. Three members were in the winning rink for the Allcomers - see below.
- 2011 Centenary Bonspiel, 12 March. Annual Bonspeil for Curling Clubs that celebrated their centenary in 2011. Representing BCC were Simon Blyth, Elaine Storrie, Ann & Ian Strathdee, Norma & Jack Steven and Sally & John Macfarlane. Won for the second year running by Wegnen.

Reports Season 2016-17
Kinross Bonspiel 5 March. Five Bearsden rinks competed this season. The Rink skipped by Simon Blyth, ably supported by Valerie Browning and Campbell Denholm, went all the way to the final and narrowly lost out to the lacal 'Barton' rink. Check out the Photos page!
Braehead Allcomers Trophy 5 March.
Margarita Sweeney Baird, Alison and Ross Barr were in the winning rink, skipped by Bill Gray (second from left). Bill is a World Senior Curling Champion, playing for Ireland in 2012.
Ladies v Gents 25th Feb 2017. President Simon with the two team captains. The four ladies rinks were captained by Valerie Browning and the Gents were captained by John Macfarlane. For the second year in succession the Gents came out on top, retaining the Centenary Medal. Use the 'photos' tab to see the Medal presentation.
The Broadway Trophy Winners 2017. The Bearsden Ladies team of Anne Reid, Joan MacVoy, Valerie Browning (skip) and Valerie Veitch won a tense final against the ladies of 69CC1. Skips shook hands during the final end with BCC 6 - 3 up and lying 2.
Points Competition 5th Feb 2017. Once again this was a competition run jointly with the Ski Club. The joint Bearsden CC winners were Norma Steven and Peter Harden. Peter Harden also won the Ski Club trophy. President Simon and Convenor Elaine are shown here presenting the David Murray Trophy to Peter and Norma.
Four Nations Weekend, Greenacres 29th Jan.Five Bearsden CC members played for their respective national curling associations. Brian and Valerie Veitch (Scotland), Alison Barr (England), Jacqui Davidson and Ross Barr (Ireland). Ireland won the Grand Slam, for the fourth time and the second year running! Pitlochry Weekend, 20-22 Jan 2017.The Famous Grouse Trophy was competed by eight teams. The winning rink was Iain Sim (skip), Norman Smith, Janice McIntyre and Magda Scott. Pictured are Norman and Janice being presented with the trophy by Hugh McLean, the 2016 winning skip. The weekend also featured a putting competitio, quizzes, a woodland walk and a ceilidh. Glynhill Ladies International, 19-22 Jan 2017.The Norwegian Skaslien Rink, sponsored by Bearsden CC. President Simon presented the ladies,Kristin Skaslien, Anneline Skaarsmoen, Julie Kjaer Molnar and Kristine Davanger each with an exclusive Ailsa Craig Granite coaster and a BCC badge. The competition was won by Team Muirhead, Scotland, who defeated the Swiss Team, Paetz, 8-3 in the Final.

Pairs, December. This was a joint BCC/Ski Club competition with 11 teams playing in 2 round robin sections. Simon Blyth and Alison Barr came through top of Section A while Bill Masterton and Iain Reekie won Section B. In a close final Bill and Ian maintained their form to lift the trophy. Pictured are Bill and Ian, front and right respectively, with our President and VP arm in arm back left.
World Mixed Curling Championships, October.
Three members of Bearsden Curling Club represented Ireland in the world championships in Kazan, Russia. Jacqui Davidson, Ross Barr and Margarita Sweeney Baird (with skip Bill Gray) had an unforgetable experience and finished in a creditable 23rd place in the competition with 37 nations. Opening Bonspiel, 9th September. Once again BCC entered two Rinks. Bearsden A - Ian Strathdee, Jack Steven, Ann Livingston and Campbell Denholm. Rink B, (pictured) - Ross Barr, Margarita Sweeney-Baird, Alison Barr and Jacqui Barr. Curling was good fun. However the raffle provided more tangible results.
David Duncan Cup. Sept 7th.Bearsden, skipped by Simon Blyth, made a winning start against Drystanes.
