•Pass out the student direction handout.

•Have students go to and follow the instructions on the handout.

•If students have any questions, ask them first if they have read the handout. It goes step-by-step through the links to click on.

Career Explorations

READ THE STEPS BELOW AS YOU GO THROUGH THE CAREER EXPLORATION WEBSITE. BEFORE YOU ASK A QUESTION, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST.

  • Go to
  • Click “My Portfolio” on the top of the page.
  • Under “New Users” click on “Create Account”.
  • Complete the user registration template.
  • Write your username here: ______
  • Write your password here: ______
  • Your School/Organization is Brooklyn Preparatory High School and the phone number is (718) 486-2550
  • The Email Address they are asking for is your personal email account.
  • Leave the Website Address blank.
  • When you have completed the User Registration template, click on “Create Account”. You may get a screen that says that your school name is similar to one of a list of school names. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on “Continue, my school name cannot be found”.
  • This should bring you into your Portfolio, where you will store the work you do on this website. If it doesn’t bring you into your Portfolio, click on “My Portfolio”.
  • In your Portfolio, click on the 02 Just below the Interest Profiler. Once you are in Interest Profiler, click on 1 – Start a New Interest Profiler. Click on Begin Interest Profiler. Complete this questionnaire.
  • Once you have completed the Interest Profiler, the results will be displayed on the screen. You will have been matched with a certain number of careers, listed in Job Zone 1 through Job Zone 5. The requirements for previous experience and/or education increases as you go up the zones. The strongest matches between your interests and a career appear in red letters.
  • Click on one of the careers and take a few minutes to look at the information under the headings. At the top of the screen, below “Help”, you will see “Save to Portfolio”. Save the page for at least one of the careers in your portfolio, although you may save more.
