Isle La Motte Elementary School’s

WEDNESDAY WEEKLY

June 12, 2013

Dear ILM Families,

The end of the year comes with tender emotions. I have so enjoyed spending another year with the Isle La Motte students, families and staff. I’m very proud of our school and all that we have accomplished this year. Our students have made big gains academically, and the school community as a whole has gotten stronger and more closely knit. Our vigorous PTO was a huge asset to the school this year, and contributions from local individuals and organizations took many forms - from financial contributions, to donated items, to gifts of labor. In the end it’s all for the kids, and it’s a pleasure to work together on their behalf.

Farewells

This week marks the end of two teachers’ tenure at Isle La Motte School. Jan Little is retiring from music teaching one school at a time, and this will be her last year teaching in Isle La Motte. We will miss her playfulness, her creative efforts in putting on shows with the kids, and of course, all the ways in which she has enriched our lives with music. Thank you so much, Jan!!

Jennilee Corrow is leaving the region and heading to Florida. She has taken a teaching position in a school near Tampa. She promises that she will be back to visit, and that she will never forget her first years of teaching in Isle La Motte. We will miss her loving heart, her warm and silly humor, her creative teaching, and of course, her boatload of Mickey Mice! Enjoy the sun, Jennilee!! We expect you to keep your promises!

Sixth Grade Celebration Tonight!!

We hope the whole school community will come out tonight to celebrate our 6th graders. Many thanks to the PTO for their decorations and treats following the ceremony.

Field Day Tomorrow!

Don’t forget the field day tomorrow! We look forward to enjoying a day if games and food with families. Please note that preschoolers are invited to spend the full day at school, with or without their parent/grandparents during the field day activities from 10:30-2:00.

Summer Meal Program

There is a wonderful source of free, fresh food for Isle La Motte families with children. During the entire summer, June 16-August 25, Food for Thought provides wholesome lunch food and free books for summer reading to children in Grand Isle County who qualify for free lunch during the school year. Supplies include milk, eggs, cheese, bread, cereal, etc. Families pick up a week’s worth of lunch food and books on Sundays at the Alburgh Fire Station (or the Congregational Church in S. Hero, if preferred). Some ILM families have already registered, and Food for Thought is happy to help coordinate between families who want to take turns picking up the ILM food. If you are interested in signing up for this program, please contact Margaret at 372-4962.

Summer School Hours

Barb L. will be at school during the two weeks after school is out and the two weeks before school begins in August. Edorah will be in and out throughout the summer. We will be checking messages at school and opening the mail, so if you need to get in touch with us, either of those will work with a slight delay.

Free Lake Monster Tickets

We still have a few free Lake Monster Tickets available for Saturday, June 22nd. Please contact Barb Larvey if you’re interested.

A Message from PTO President, Jen Rafferty

We've had a very successful 2012-2013 school year for the ILM PTO. First I'd like to thank the officers Bonnie Jarvis, vice president, Jennilee Corrow, treasurer, and Andrea Parker, secretary. You guys rock! Thank you so much for stepping up in so many ways and leading the way.
To our core members who were there day in, day out: Toby, Sarah N., Sarah P., Patty, Cindy, Renee, Tara, and Barbara C. Thankyou, thank you, thank you! Without such an amazing group of people we could not have accomplished so much or had as much fun.
I'd also like to thank the staff of the ILM school. You folks are there every day, making our children's lives better. Your dedication and love that you've shown our children is so apparent to us. The PTO thanks you!

As I looked over our year of events, fundraisers and programs we helped support,it makes me very proud to be a small part of the PTO. It just goes to show what a difference a few dedicated and determined individuals can make when joined together in a common goal - our goal being to make a better school community for our children, parents and teachers.

The PTO has raised funds with bottle drives, a raffle, holiday cookie sales, wreaths sales, and can deposit bins. We used those funds to have a pizza and movie night, family bowling night, and a spring fling dance. The PTO helped sponsor our students on a Flynn field trip, the ECHO trip, to purchase ice skates and cross country ski boots for PE classes, the golf program, the community dinner, teacher appreciation week, 6th grade graduation gifts, and the 6th grade graduation trip.
The PTO also provided refreshments for open house, Circus Smirkus, and graduation.
We have three different dates over the summer.
June 22nd - Can drop off at the school
July 7th - Bottle drive – meet at the school at 9:45, back at the school at 12 pm

PTO picnic to follow bottle drive at Jen and Andrea's (3283 West Shore Rd.), please bring a dish to pass.

Aug 22nd - PTO meeting 6 pm. Come join us!

It's been a wonderful school year. We are looking forward to an outstanding 2013-2014 school year. Have a fun summer.
