PURPOSE
The University of North Florida College of Arts & Sciences Internship Program (an elective course) is designed to assist students achieve their educational and career goals, in conjunction with meeting the future human resource needs of Internship employers. The elective Internship is a university-wide academic program blending classroom learning with practical work experience. The quality and success of the program is dependent upon the collaborative efforts between Students, Employers, and the University. It is mutually agreed that the purpose of this Agreement is to provide a comprehensive learning experience for participating students from the University within a business setting in accordance with the provisions set forth in this Agreement. RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with the provisions and responsibilities outlined in this Agreement, the University and the Employer will work together to ensure that the academic and work experience aspects of the COAS Internship Program are carried out to the mutual satisfaction of the student participants as well as the parties to the Agreement. As evidence to this:
The Employer agrees to:
(1) Designate an individual to serve as liaison with the University's College of Arts & Sciences Internship Coordinator.

(2) Keep the University informed of internship work opportunities.
(3) Respond promptly to referrals of internship students by the University.
(4) Select internship appointees from students referred by the University without discrimination on the basis of age, sex, ancestry, color, creed, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Each party shall be responsible for their compliance with applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulation prohibiting discrimination.
(5) Place internship students under proper supervision and provide the student with a full orientation to policies and procedures and the student's own specific role and responsibilities in the organization.
(6) Offer internship students meaningful and increasingly responsible work assignments related to their major area of studies.
(7) Provide students with the required work hours (100 to 300) per semester as needed to satisfy their academic elective requirement.
(8) Support student's commitment to fulfill the academic requirements of the internship program each work term (registration in internship courses, writing learning objectives, time sheets, and semester reports, and participating in all required interviews and site visits with internship coordinator).
(9) Furnish the University with two supervisory evaluations of internship students during each semester.
(10) Notify the University of any Personnel Actions which affect the status or tenure of internship students, including intent to release. Employer shall be responsible for the immediate discipline of Students while on its premises. The University however retains final authority with regard to disciplinary action of Students. Any termination of a Student will generally be executed only at the end of a specific internship program, except for termination for cause in accordance with the Employer’s policies and procedures, which may be immediate.
(11) Refrain from offering permanent employment to internship students prior to his/her completion of their current degree requirements.
GENERAL
This Agreement shall be for a term of three (3) years, commencing of the effective date as noted above. Upon consent of both parties the Agreement may be renewed for a period no longer than the term. Renewals shall be accomplished by a Letter of Agreement signed by both parties and shall be subject to the same terms and conditions set forth herein, unless expressly stated otherwise. Either party shall have the right to terminate this Agreement with or without cause upon thirty (30) days prior written notice to the other party. Any termination or expiration of this Agreement shall be effective only at the end of a specific academic period, or upon full completion of the program curriculum for Students.
