A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AN EXCEPTIONAL RELIGIOUS LEADER, REVEREND DR. LEON C. RECTOR, JR., OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, FOR HIS THIRTYSIX YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO GOD AND THE CONGREGATION OF HARRISON GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH IN SPARTANBURG, TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION FOR THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH THIS CHURCH HAS DEMONSTRATED UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP BY CREATING A FIRM FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE, BEING COMMITTED TO SERVING GOD AND REACHING OUT TO ALL MANKIND, AND TO EXTEND TO HIM BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE TO GOD AND HIS CHURCH.

Whereas, Reverend Dr. Leon C. Rector, Jr., is a wonderful pastor and spiritual leader, who has spent more than thirtysix years inspiring the congregation of Harrison Grove Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the Reverend Dr. Leon Rector, Jr., was educated at North Greenville College, Fruitland Baptist Bible College, MidAtlantic Baptist Bible College and Seminary, and at Andersonville Bible Seminary; and

Whereas, Reverend Rector has received numerous recognitions for his committed spirited and community leadership including the Good Shepherd Award and the Palmetto State Award. He is involved in many organizations, including membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, serves as a faculty member with the South Carolina Congress of Christian Education, and is a moderator of the Tyger River Baptist Association; and

Whereas, his exemplary leadership and motivational skills have greatly aided his parishioners in furthering their spiritual growth, and his greatest goal, that of outreach and winning souls, has led to an overwhelming growth among the congregations he has touched; and

Whereas, possessing a special gift for sharing his experiences, he authored a book titled “Ordered Steps”, which has touched the lives of thousands, encouraging readers to rise above their circumstances, and lead others to the Lord; and

Whereas, Reverend Rector believes deeply in education, serving on the Board of Trustees at Morris College in Sumter, and advocating support for Morris and Benedict Colleges as well. He is also the founder of an extension program at Harrison Grove which has been preparing preachers and laity to understand the word of God; and

Whereas, he is the widower of the late Mrs. Lois Gaffney Rector. They had five wonderful children: Kathy, Lonnie, Myron, Allen, and Dennis, and he is the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and greatgrandfather of one greatgrandchild; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives would like to publicly recognize and commend this wonderful man of God for an exemplary career as a pastor and spiritual leader. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend an exceptional religious leader, Reverend Dr. Leon C. Rector, Jr., of Spartanburg County, for his thirtysix years of outstanding service to God and the congregation of Harrison Grove Baptist Church in Spartanburg, and express appreciation for the spiritual growth this church has demonstrated under his leadership by creating a firm foundation for the future, being committed to serving God and reaching out to all mankind, and extend to him best wishes for many more years of faithful service to God and his church.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Dr. Leon C. Rector, Jr.
