Comments/Explanations

After walking the track the Stewards did not concur with the official track rating of DEAD 5, as in their opinion there were sections of the track that were worse than the rating of DEAD 5 which would affect the overall rating. Stewards, in consultation with the Club, determined that the track would be down-graded to a SLOW 6 at 10.30 am.

Jarrod Fry pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR 120(b) in that he accepted two rides at today’s race meeting for which he was found to be overweight. After taking into account his record in relation to this rule, Jockey Fry was fined the sum of $150.

RACE 1 – ROSS FOURACRE 2YO ALEXANDRA PLATE – SETWEIGHTS – NO CLAIMS – 1000 METRES

Shayana was slow to begin (1L).

At various stages throughout the race Lustica laid in and in the home straight the filly continued to lay in resulting in Darren Gauci being unable to ride the filly out in his normal manner.

Approaching the 100 metres, Geegees Doublejay commenced to hang in when under pressure.

RACE 2 – DUDLEY CLARKE 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1100 METRES

The start of this race was delayed due to Apprentice Mehmet Ulucinar being dislodged from Foreign Lady behind the barriers which resulted in him having to be examined by the Club’s medical officers.

The start was further delayed due to the tongue tie having to be adjusted on Diamond Dan.

Raspberry Flavour jumped inwards and lost some ground.

Shortly after the start, Solo Man clipped the heels and almost fell when Perplexing which when racing ungenerously was taken out slightly by Lethal Rock.

Approaching the 100 metres Geegee’s Clang when attempting to obtain a run between Blue Tier and Game of Thrones, laid in which resulted in it being initially unable to utilise that run until it was corrected by its rider .

Raspberry Flavour raced greenly throughout.

Ruby’s for Me raced wide throughout.

Apprentice Georgie Catania, the rider of Solo Man explained that after clipping heels and almost falling shortly after the start, the gelding then failed to respond to her riding from that point and in the home straight she eased it down. A veterinary inspection subsequent to the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3 – DAVID LONERGAN 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1400 METRES

Correct weight was delayed when Jockey David Pires, the rider of the second placegetter (Chi Gong) requested to view the official patrol films near the 600 metres. After doing so, Jockey Pires lodged an objection against No Spin Zone (R Yetimova (a)) being declared the winner on the ground of alleged interference near the 600 metres. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the official patrol films, Stewards upheld the protest as they were of the opinion that the interference suffered was greater than the margin of half a head at the finish and the Judge’s placings were amended to:

1st Chi Gong

2nd No Spin Zone

3rd Summer Downs

4th Kings View (NZ)

At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice Rasit Yetimova, the rider of No Spin Zone, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR 137(a), the particulars being that near the 600 metres he permitted his mount to shift in and tighten Chi Gong which was checked resulting in Canny Cross which was following to be also being checked. Rasit Yetimova’s licence to ride in races was suspended for two race dates to commence at midnight tonight (21/12/2013) and to expire at midnight on 31/12/2013. Whenassessing this incident, Stewards took into account that it was in the low/mid range. During this incident Song Of Gold was also hampered.

On the way to the barriers Grant Challinger, the rider of He’s Feisty, was harmlessly dislodged.

Prior to correct weight Kim Moore, the rider of Victory Medal made application in relation to the gelding possibly being denied a fair start. After viewing the vision it was established that as the gates opened the gelding lowered its head resulting in it losing considerable ground (4L). As the Stewards were of the view that it was a result of the horse’s actions, it was declared a starter.

He’s Feisty was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start Song of Gold was hampered when Hurricane Flyer shifted out slightly.

Approaching the 800 metres Moonless got its head up when over-racing.

Near the 800 metres No Spin Zone shifted out slightly resulting in Hurricane Flyer being taken out off its course and Bullet Kingdom which was following that gelding, having to shift out to avoid its heels.

Bullet Kingdom then got its head up when being restrained whilst attempting to re-gain its position behind Hurricane Flyer.

Approaching the 600 metres, Delightful Weekend got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Chilli Quest.

Near the 500 metres, Song of Gold which was improving had to be checked to avoid the heels of Chi Gong.

Apprentice Tyson Buck (Bullet Kingdom) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii), the particulars being that he used his whip on 7 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres which is 2 more than the permitted number under the requirements of the rule. After considering submissions on penalty and taking into account Apprentice Buck’s recent record in relation to this rule, he was fined the sum of $100.

After considering submissions on penalty and taking into account Jockey Pires’ recent record in relation to this rule, he was fined the sum of $100.

Jockey David Pires (Chi Gong) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i), the particulars being that he used his whip on successive strokes in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres. After considering submissions on penalty and taking into account Jockey Pires’ recent record in relation to this rule, he was issued with a reprimand.

RACE 4 – PETA SORELL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Shortly after the start, Let’s Go Ernie was inconvenienced when avoiding the heels of Searlait which was taken out by One More Red.

Near the 600 metres, One More Red got its head up whilst being steadied when racing between Wise Investment and Ile Aux Cygnes, which lay in slightly.

Passing the 100 metres, One More Red and Grandarci (NZ) brushed due to both horses shifting ground.

Throughout the race Little Streaker hung out. A warning was issued against that filly due to its racing manners.

RACE 5 – WINZENBERG HANDICAP – QUALITY NO CLAIMS – 1100 METRES

Prior to correct weight David Pires, the rider of Isibaeva, viewed the photo image.

Prior to the start of this race, the connections of Little River Girl advised Stewards that it would be their intention to ride the mare, which normally races in the lead, further back in the field if circumstances permit. A public announcement to this effect was made prior to the start of the race.

Little River Girl jumped reasonably well before its rider elected to attempt to restrain back however he was unable to do so which resulted in the mare being obliged to race wide throughout.

Shortly after the start, Too Many Reds was tightened for room between Punctuate which shifted out and Isibaeva.

After taking evidence from Ismail Toker rider of Innocent Gamble, Stephen Maskiell rider of Too Many Reds and David Pires rider of Isibaeva Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for Isibaeva being tightened and Too Many Reds being checked near the 1000 metres to allow Ismail Toker to be further represented by his master Mr Barry Campbell.

RACE 6 – LISA JOHNSTON BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

Near the 1200 metres Reach the Moon got its head up when being checked off the heels of Hot to Trot.

Yassi Nishatani rider of Gee Gee Miss Bee which commenced to give ground from the 400 metres and was then eased down in the home straight explained that the mare failed to respond to his riding when put under pressure and felt amiss in its action and for this reason he did not ride it out in his normal manner.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Gee Gee Miss Bee failed to reveal any abnormalities.

An inquiry was adjourned into the riding actions of Daniel Ganderton rider of Mega Excel in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Mega Excel failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Following the running of this race, Jockey Anthony Darmanin was examined by the on-course medical officers and declared unfit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Stewards advised Jockey Darmanin that he must submit a medical clearance prior to riding in trackwork, trials or races.

RACE 7 – SOLAHART BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Make Cents jumped awkwardly before being taken out by Selingkuh (NZ). Make Cents was then severely checked when Huon Knight was taken in by Date And Sign which jumped inwards.

Shortly after the start Another Lad Al was checked when tightened for room between Dalkeith Dancer which shifted out slightly and Short Story which was taken in slightly by Hell Strong.

Approaching the 800 metres Aslanyon had to be checked to avoid the heels of Date And Sign when that mare lost ground.

Stephen Maskiell (Hell Strong) was charged under the provisions of AR 137.(a) the particulars being that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 600 metres when insufficiently clear of The Producer which resulted in that gelding being checked. After considering further submissions from Mr Maskiell which included that the The Producer had improved into a narrow run to the inside of Hell Strong on the point of the turn and that The Producer may have shifted marginally when negating the turn together with the section of the track where the incident took place was inferior compared to the majority of the track. Stewards withdrew the charge. Stephen Maskiell was notified that he would be expected to keep his mounts straight when in similar circumstances. Apprentice Georgie Catania rider of The Producer was also notified that whilst there was a narrow run for her to attempt to improve she must be mindful that there is sufficient room that takes into account for any marginal shift especially when her mounts are negating a corner. During this incident Make Cents which was following the The Producer was checked.

An inquiry was adjourned into the reasons for Aslanyon being checked at the 1000 metres and again after passing the 200 metres.

RACE 8 – KEVIN SHARKIE TASMANIAN STAKES – WEIGHT FOR AGE – NO CLAIMS – LISTED – 1600 METRES

Prevailing was slow to begin.

The Cleaner hung out during the early stages of the race.

After taking evidence from Darren Gauci, the rider of The Cleaner, Mick Burles, the trainer of the gelding together with Sigrid Carr, the rider of Pengalas Gee Gee and John Luttrell the trainer of the gelding, Stewards adjourned the inquiry until a date to be fixed to allow them to examine betting details relating to the race and also to view the previous runs of both geldings.

Mr Mick Burles and Mr John Luttrell were further interviewed in relation to an incident that occurred in the Stabling area subsequent to the race. Evidence was taken from both trainers and Stipendiary Steward Mr Bruce Free. After evaluating all the tendered evidence, no direct action was taken against either Mr Luttrell or Mr Burles other than to notify them of their requirement to act in a manner befitting their licences as issued by Racing Services Tasmania.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Pengalas Gee Gee failed to reveal any abnormalities.
