Terms and Conditions
All users of the Hartree Centre systems are required to accept and adhere to the following terms and conditions, which include the provisions detailed in both the Hartree Centre Acceptable Use Policy and the Hartree Centre Data Collection Policy, incorporated here for convenience, see Appendix A. for links to public copies. Acceptable Use Policy
The Hartree Centre relies on its computer and communications facilities to carry out its business. All these facilities can be put at risk through improper or ill-informed use, and result in consequences which may be damaging to the centre, its customers or its employees.
Access to Hartree Centre facilities is therefore granted solely for the purposes of meeting customer project objectives. Usage of Hartree Centre systems for unrelated activities is prohibited. Examples of unacceptable activities include, but are not limited to:
- Transmitting, downloading or storing any material such that this infringes the copyright of the owner.
- Making your personal user name and password (also known as a “user account”) available for other people to use on your behalf.
- Using another person’s identity so as to appear to be someone else.
- Attempting to gain or facilitate unauthorised access to a system or information on a system.
- Accessing another individual’s data, ICT systems or service without appropriate authorisation.
- Attempting to deliberately corrupt, destroy or deny access to another customer’s data files.
- Deliberately creating, storing or transmitting information which infringes the data protection registration of STFC.
- Knowingly allowing the use of Hartree Centre resources by unauthorised third parties.
- Disabling, altering, or circumventing any measures put in place by STFC or the Hartree Centre to maintain the safe and secure operation of systems and services.
- Using Hartree Centre services for unauthorised purposes such as the mining of digital currencies.
- Deliberately accessing, viewing, receiving, downloading, sending or storing material:
- with pornographic, offensive, obscene or indecent content;
- related to criminal skills or terrorist activities;
- that promote or encourage discrimination, racism or intolerance;
- that facilitates illegal activity in the UK or the host country;
- that is illegal in the UK or the host country;
- that is defamatory, threatening, harassing, offensive or abusive;
- that will, or is likely to, bring the Hartree Centre, its staff or other STFC employees into disrepute;
- that is known to be infected with a virus, worm, Trojan or any form of malicious software or code;
- that infringes the privacy and data protection rights of individuals;
- that could endanger the health and safety of any other individual.
Hartree Centre SAFE User registration service and Data Protection
At STFC (being a Council under, and part of, United Kingdom Research and Innovation), we intend to make sure that we maintain the UK as a world-leader in science and technology research - integral to this is our commitment to protecting and safeguarding your data privacy.
It is part of STFC’s public purpose to provide services such as SAFE. In order to effectively provide that service to you, we need to collect information about you and may need to contact you from time to time with regards to its provision.
STFC considers it to be in its legitimate interest to enable anyone who has signed up to access the SAFE service that it should be able to efficiently manage the provision and ongoing review and monitoring of that service for their benefit. STFC therefore requests and securely holds the data which it requires for these purposes. Please ensure that, for so long as you are accessing the SAFE service, the information that you have provided to us is kept up to date.
We will share your information with selected third parties only as necessary to conduct occasional impact evaluation studies.
