Public Works Maintenance Worker (Seasonal)

Job Summary

Operates construction equipment and vehicles to perform snow removal, maintenance, and repair.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Plow and removes snow from streets and parking areas.

2.  Operates a wide variety of equipment such as loaders, rollers, backhoes, spreaders, tractors, dump trucks, and similar equipment to perform maintenance and repair assignments.

3.  Responds and provides for emergency repairs.

4.  Maintain, repair and replace street signage.

5.  Inspects assigned areas; corrects or reports safety hazards.

6.  Performs operational and safety checks of equipment; checks fuel and fluid levels, air pressures, hydraulic systems and lubrication points.

7.  Performs minor adjustments and preventative maintenance and reports need for major maintenance and repair.

8.  Ensures that safe work practices and procedures are followed and that appropriate safety equipment is utilized.

9.  Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

·  Snow plowing operations for a municipal government.

·  Capabilities, operational characteristics, adjustment and preventative maintenance of a variety of construction vehicles and equipment.

·  Public works maintenance and repair practices and techniques.

·  Use and maintenance of hand and power tools.

·  Safety principles, practices and equipment.


Public Works Maintenance Worker (Seasonal)

Skill in:

·  Operation of a variety of construction vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

·  Adjustment and preventative maintenance on a variety of construction vehicles and equipment.

·  Maintaining accurate records of work performed.

·  Ensuring safe and proper use of facilities, vehicles and equipment.

·  Using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.

·  Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of work team goals.

·  Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with staff, coworkers, contractors and the public.

Minimum Job Requirements

Equivalent to high school diploma and two (2) years of construction/maintenance work, one (1) year of which was in the operation of Snow Plow equipment. Applicant must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a night shift position.

Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Background Investigation

Employment is contingent upon the results of a criminal history record check.

Medical Examination

A pre-employment drug test is part of the examination.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Strength and physical ability to perform duties in a maintenance setting, including operating heavy equipment, hand and power equipment; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds of force; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Work is subject to performance under adverse environmental conditions, with exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, solvents and fumes.
