A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of Steven Curtis Chapman.
WHEREAS, Steven Curtis Chapman, a native of the community of Heath, in McCracken County, Kentucky, was once again achieved gospel's most-honored musician of the year on April 24, 1997, at the 28th Annual Dove Awards in Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, this pop contemporary sounding musician achieved top male vocalist, songwriter, and pop-contemporary album of the year for his "Signs of Life" album; Steven was nominated in 7 categories and received Doves for Artist of the Year; Male Vocalist of the Year; Songwriter of the Year, his eighth time in nine years; and Contemporary Album of the Year for "Signs of Life"; and
WHEREAS, Steven Curtis Chapman calls his music everything from gospel music to pop gospel (which is the Grammy label for it) and contemporary Christian is one of the other catch phrases for it, but it is basically a combination of acoustic rock, blues, folk, pop, all of that put together with lyrics that are real life lyrics; and
WHEREAS, Steven Curtis Chapman is a worldwide ambassador for Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, for Steven Curtis Chapman, all his own songs are born out of his own faith in God and his Christian faith, not preaching songs or sermons, but they are just songs about real life, from a person who is proud to have lived eighteen years in Kentucky;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body proudly recognizes and hails Steven Curtis Chapman for his outstanding contributions in the musical field.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Steven Curtis Chapman upon the occasion of winning Artist of the Year at the 28th Annual Dove Awards.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Charles Geveden for presentation to Steven Curtis Chapman.
