LAB 4 Windows Deployment Services

In this lab we will be installing Windows Deployment Services

Desktop Deployment

Install WDS
Install the Windows Deployment service role. /
  1. On the Startmenu point to Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
  2. Click Roles.
  3. Click Add Roles.
  4. On the Before You Begin click Next.
  5. Place checkmark in front of Windows Deployment Services, and then clickNext.
  6. On the Windows Deployment Services page, clickNext.
  7. On the Select Role Services, clickNext.
  8. On the Confirm Installation Selections page, click Install.
Note: Installation will begin. Takes about 90 seconds.
  1. On the Installation Results page, click Close.

  1. Shut down your virtual machine from inside the OS
  2. From the Virtual PC Console, click the Settings button
  3. Click on Hard Disk 2
  4. Click on the Virtual Disk Wizard
  5. On the Welcome to the Virtual Disk Wizard , click on Next.
  6. On the Disk Options page, Choose Create a new virtual disk, and click on Next
  7. On the Virtual Disk Type page, ChooseA virtual hard disk, then click on Next.
  8. On the Virtual Hard Disk Location, Enter WSUG-DC01-HD2 and click Next.
  9. Choose Dynamically Expanding and click Next.
  10. On the Virtual Hard Disk Size, Enter 35000 and click Next.
  11. Click Finish

Add 2nd Hard drive /
  1. Boot the machine back up and logon as administrator.
  2. On the Startmenu point to Administrative Tools , Open Server Manager
  3. Expand Storage.
  4. Click on Disk Management.
  5. Note: your disk should show up as Disk 1unknown, offline and Unallocated.
  6. Click OK on the initialize disk page. If it does not appear, Right Click on Disk 1 and choose Online.
  7. Note: it will change from offline to not Initialized
  8. Right Click on the unallocated partition and choose New Simple partition.
  9. On the Welcome screen press Next.
  10. On the Specify Volume Size enter 30000 and click Next.
  11. On the Assign Letter or Path, clickNext. (E: drive will be assigned.)
  12. On the Format Partition page, place a checkmark in front of perform a quick format and click Next.
  13. Note: We do this because the virtual hard drive doesn’t’ need vigorous testing.
  14. On the Completing the new simple volume wizard, Click Finish

  1. On the Startmenu point to Administrative Tools, click on Windows Deployment Services.
  2. Expand Servers.
  3. Right Click your server name and choose Configure Server.
  4. On the welcome page, click next
  5. On the Remote Installation Folder Location, Enter E:\RemoteInstall and click Next.
  6. On the DHCP Option 60 window, choose both options and choose Next.
Both options must be checked if you are running your deployment server on your DHCP server.
  1. On the PXE Server Initial Settings page, Choose Respond to all (known and unknown) client computers, click Finish.
  2. On the Configuration complete page, uncheck “Add image..” and then click Finish.
