Project 1
Raising Aspirations:
JD stressed the need to identify what we are already doing, learn from one another and to get parents engaged in raising aspirations for their child.
There will be a mini Olympics in E Hants in summer 2011 – intergenerational games are planned.
Bordon Schools Council are planning an event on Wed October 20th from 3.30 – 6pm at Mill Chase to raise awareness of the positive aspects of the Bordon community areas. ‘Proud that we live in Bordon’ is hoping to identify the wide variety of community facilities and opportunities available to all community members. All LCP members are asked to consider possible input or contribution to the event. / John Dalloway leading
3ii / Project 2
Sex Education and Relationships:
Some good resources available for schools from HCC PSHE team – Glyn Wright
Group had identified the need to ensure continuity of provision across schools – to ensure that SRE is addressed in every year group from primary up – not just relying on certain focus days in particular year groups. Planning an EIP half day conference 10th November to share resources and plan for continuity.
Need to raise aspirations of teenage mums – working with Children’s Centres
Obesity: Leisure Centre at Mill Chase are going to run a fitness and healthy eating course starting soon (based on MEND idea) 7-11 year olds initially but younger siblings will be able to attend. Funded by extended services. Course can be tailored to small group individual needs. / Roanna Thurbon reporting on behalf of
Jan Berry leading and linking with EIP strand
3iii / Project 3
Vulnerable Children:
Minutes of EIP “Mind the Gap meeting” 6th July distributed.
Discussion had centred around 4 areas of work:
1. Identifying and training mentors or champions
2. Improving transitions
3. Sharing expertise in closing the gap in attainment for vulnerable children; interventions that make a difference
4. Encouraging children to join the library and share books
Group to organise a training event for adult mentors/champions – school staff and other adults. Group exploring agencies already involved in the work e.g. Glyn Wright/Barbara Seymour HIAS / Community First Volunteers/ Mill Chase school. AltonCollege will seek to recruit volunteers in Sept. LG/MF to discuss with local HTs in E Hants Area and draw up a protocol.
Group to organise half day conference summer term 2011 to invite sharing of strategies to improve attainment – divided into key stages.
Next meeting of EIP group Tues 14th Sept 9.00-12.00 at WeyfordInfant School – all welcome / Liz George leading and linking with EIP project
4 / How do we work with children? – Linear model
During group discussion MF circulated a piece of paper for all to indicate what age children they work with and in what capacity. This will form a chart in due course to enable LCP members to see resources available within the area. It was felt it would be useful for members to bring business cards and descriptions of their service to the next meeting.
5 / Discussion about LCP plans: Meeting divided into two groups to look at the draft plan. Members were asked to look at initiatives proposed to identify resources known to them or ways they could help. All ideas welcome. Members to identify gaps in current services. Bordon LCP has been given £10,000. Group leaders JD and LG to annotate the draft plan with new suggestions from groups and to return to MF / JD/LG to annotate draft plan following discussions and return to MF
6 / Feedback:
Brief feedback was held. JD group had looked at the whole plan and felt they were clearer about LCP priorities.
LG group had useful discussions within the group about services that are/could be available through members. E.g. counselling, and 16-19 NEET & disability provision Enham -E2E.
New ideas will be added to draft plan
9 / AOB: Members were asked to bring business cards and descriptions of their service to the next meeting. Also any resources that they may have, or know of, relevant to the LCP priorities, and in particular Sex & relationships education. Resources list could be placed on a section of EIP website?
