Schedule:

Varsity 6:30 – 8:15 AM

Junior Varsity – 1:00-2:30 PM

Varsity

Be there at 6:15 AM. Be there with dry-land clothes on and running shoes.

Practice begins at 6:30 AM.

Junior Varsity

A bus will pick you up and bring you to the Nat and then change out and go back

Diving

Be there asap. Practice is from 2:45 PM – 4:00 PM

We will be out of the water the 2nd week in September due to work issues at the Natatorium. A schedule will be sent out letting everyone know what will go on when we do.

Goals: To prepare a swimmer to swim in competitive meets

To learn to swim properly for all strokes

To learn proper technique for starts and turns

Attendance: It is very important that you attend every workout. Please try and get all tutoring done after school. Swimming is a class and just like any class grades are given. If a person is unable to swim due to continuous tutoring help in the morning, then they need to remove themselves from this extracurricular activity to allow for the extra time to study.

Workouts Cancelled: If workout is cancelled then everyone will meet in the High School Cafeteria at normal school time. For varsity, the bus will pick the freshman up at 8:45 AM from the High School to take them to the Lowery Center. For JV, the bus will bring you to the Nat and check in attendance there. Then bus will take you back.

Scheduled Breaks in School: We will have workouts during breaks except for Labor Day and Spring Break. Information will be given out to tell each swimmer what time they are expected to be there. Normally, practice will be from 7:00 – 9:00 AM on breaks during the swim season.

No workout during Spring Break

Varsity/Junior Varsity: We will be offering meets for both junior varsity and varsity swimmers.

Any senior will be on varsity as long as they have participated on the High School team in the past and are a positive member for the team during the school year. They will have all the privileges of a varsity swimmer as long as the follow all the rules held for varsity members. If they are unable to adhere to those rules then they will be asked to accept a place on junior varsity.

Absence from Athletics/Practice

Notify a coach prior to an athletes’ absence.

Athletes will do “make-up work” for missed practices, not as a punishment, but to make up what they missed.

Parent/Doctor’s/Trainer Notes

Parent notes restricting athletes’ activities should be limited and are only good for a maximum of two days. After two days, a note from a doctor or trainer will be required indicating the injury and anticipated down time. If after two days we do not have a doctor’s note, the athlete will be expected to practice. Athletes are still expected to participate in activities that do not affect the injury.

If an athlete has restrictions from participation in athletics, it is expected that the same restrictions apply to club sports as well

How to Receive a Letter: To receive a letter: 1) Finish top 10 at Districts 2) Have participated on the team for four full years 3) Participate on a relay going to Regionals or participate on a relay at Regionals.

On relays, if you were on the relay that made Regionals but end up not swimming the relay at Regionals then you will get a letter. However, no alternates will receive letters, only those that qualified the relay or swam on the relay at Regionals.

Academics: It is important to keep a high grade average in all classes. If a swimmer or diver fails a class for a six week period then they will not be allowed to participate in the swim meets until they have passed all their classes at the 3 week progress report period. It is the responsibility of the swimmer/diver to inform the coaches of their grades.

If a swimmer or diver fails two consecutive six weeks then they will be removed from the sport.

Tutorial Program: Allen High School has a tutorial program for the athletes. If an athlete has a grade below a 69 then they are required to go to tutoring twice a week. There are two groups of tutoring:

If they are below a 70, then they will be required to go to the mandatory tutoring class.

They will have forms that they will have to fill out and have the teacher sign. Each week they will be responsible for all of that plus turning it back in to the coach. It is not the coach’s responsibility to run them down.

This is not an excuse to miss workout. They will be offered in the afternoon for the swimmers and in the morning for diving. But they are required to make. If they do not make it there will be punishments.

1st Time Missed: Swimming: 10 x 10 squatsters (grab ankles and touch their rear to their ankles then come back up to their rear passing their knees) after workout

Diving: Run 1 and ½ miles

2nd Time Missed: Swimming: 20 x 10 squatsters

Diving: Run 2 and ½ miles along with conditioning

3rd Time Missed: Swimming: Sit out next meet

Diving: Sit out next meet

4th Time Missed: Both: Dismissed from Team

Academics: It is important to keep a high grade average in all classes. If a swimmer or diver fails a class for a nine week period then they will not be allowed to participate in the swim meets until they have passed all their classes at the 3 week progress report period. It is the responsibility of the swimmer/diver to inform the coaches of their grades.

If a swimmer or diver fails three consecutive nine weeks then they will be removed from the sport.

Meets: Everyone will attend meets. If you are unable to attend a meet for an unexpected emergency, please inform the coach of the situation. Call or by email immediately. The only meets that will be swim/dive attend only are invitational type meets like TISCA.

If you do not get the information to the coach then you will not be allowed to participate in the next meet.

If a meet is on a school day, the only swimmers allowed to go to the meet will be swimmers that are attending the meet and any seniors who did not qualify for the meet. However, if a senior is failing a course during this period of time or has failed the prior six weeks then they will not be allowed to attend the meet.

Locker Room: You will be able to change at the natatorium. You will be given a locker there. Since you will be allowed to keep your suit/goggles at the pool, you should have your equipment every day. You will need to bring a lock for your locker. People will be in and out daily, it is important to keep your stuff locked.

Practice Workout Attire: Swimmers need to have a training suit (females one piece) and a cap and goggles.

Meet Attire: Meet attire will be given to you except for goggles

Suits/Caps: Suits/Caps will be given out before the first meet of the year.

Other Equipment: Other equipment such as warm-up suits, signs, etc. They can be bought through the booster club.

Email Information: Many things are sent out via email to inform parents and swimmers/divers of directions/meet information/practice changes/etc. You need to make sure that you are on the list. A form was sent home with your child to fill out on the 2nd day of school, if you did not receive that, please email me at nd I will send it to you to fill out immediately.

Previous Participation Form: If you came in during this year or came from another ISD last year, you will need to fill out a Previous Participation Form. It must be filled out by your former school and answered by you and turned in before your athlete can participate in a meet. It takes at a minimum 2 weeks to get it approved or not approved. So the sooner it is done the sooner your swimmer/diver has a chance to participate.

Booster Club: The booster club is a very important part of the Allen High School Swimming and Diving team. The money collected for joining the booster club goes towards the end of the year banquet. This organization meets monthly.

Punishments for breaking rules: Every swimmer and diver represents the team at the pool and away from the pool. Each person needs to be on his or her best behavior.

If a Team rule is broken during a meet then that swimmer will be subject to the school’s punishment as well as a team punishment. Depending on severity or continuous rule breaking, expulsion from team is a possibility.

Team Rules:

1)If you are not showering or changing, you are in the stands at the pool. You are on your best behavior. You do not sit out front unless you are eating.

Consequence: 1) Informed of the rule again 2) Parental Contact 3)Parental Meeting

2)Once you enter the building you are not allowed to leave until 8:50 AM or until the bus leaves.

Consequence: Inform House Office

3)If you need something out of your car, you must come to the coach first and ask permission to go to your car. If you do not tell the coach and are found outside, you will be reported truant. To many people have just left in the past.

Consequence: Inform House Office and follow their instructions

4)Everyone will leave when the bus gets to the pool or 8:50 AM. No exceptions.

Consequence: Inform House Office and follow their instructions

5)When in the school, you go to the cafeteria. Do not walk around the school.

Lowery: Report to where they tell you to report, probably the gym

Consequence: Inform House Office and follow their instructions

Travel Meet Rules:

1)No guys in girls rooms and no girls in guys rooms

2)No horseplay inside or outside the room.

3)Everyone is in their room at 9:30 PM

4)Always respect everyone and everything at the meet.

Consequence: Depending on the severity of the break of the rule will be dependent on how this is handled. All of these will be reported to the school and athletic department. Upon return from Travel meet, I will meet with each to determine what will happen. If the action by the athlete is so severe, after contact with the athletic department and school determines that immediate removal is required, then that student will be sent home.
