Peer Teaching 1 Evaluation

I feel my very first peer teaching was, overall, a good learning experience. There were things I thought I did rather well. I tried to focus on certain items on the evaluation page such as having good eye contact, good posture, speaking clearly with appropriate volume, and making sure I moved about the classroom. So, I felt I did those things pretty well and my fellow classmates thought so, as well, based on the feedback relating to those areas. Although, I was a little nervous, it did not show, and I was glad about that. The mere fact that I was up there was a MIRACLE. So on a scale from one to ten I give myself a six.

The element I discussed (or was suppose to discuss) was timbre, which I did not want to present because I was not familiar with it (that’s why I raised my hand first so I could get pitch for my element to present). I wanted to convey was the distinct sound between to different people groups. So initially I thought the music I chose would be a good example of that. However, according to the feedback of the class, I spoke more about style than actual voice timbre. Also, the volume of the music was too loud and it was very hard to hear what I was saying. After viewing the video, I could barely hear myself; therefore, if there is any music for listening, it is important that the volume is set at an appropriate level. So now I am aware of a couple of things I need to do differently next time.

If I did that lesson all over again, I would be on time to set up prior to class so that I do not have to feel rush and have a few minutes to relax before teaching. I would tried give a better illustration of what timbre such as having the student hear the unique sound between two or more voice types or instruments and find out exactly how they differ. I also would like to involve the student more by either asking question or having them to demonstrate the concept being taught.
