February 9, 2017

Dear Parents,

The time is fast approaching…the UIL OAP Competition is in just 2 weeks! I want to give you a heads up on the order of things and the dates and times for the upcoming weeks.

We will rehearse every day the week of the UIL Competition. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be until 6:30. Friday will be until 6. We will NOT have rehearsal that Monday, President’s Day.

On Thursday, February 23, we will have our official rehearsal time at Kingwood High School. This will be during the school day from 12pm–4:30pm. This is only for the Cast (including understudies), Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Sound Technician, Lighting Technician andCostume Head. If your student is one that is required to attend, please turn in the permission form below.Without your consent, your student can not attend the rehearsal at KHS or the competition on February 25.

Saturday, February 25 is our big performance day! All traveling students will need to be at AMS at 6:45 am. From there we will ride over to KHS (we will have an HISD bus). Due to UIL rules, I am only allowed to bring 5 additional students to the competition plus alternates. This will be those who attend the official rehearsal. However, if you would like to bring your student to watch the performances, the competition will be open to all and begins at 9 am and runs until 5 pm. The cost will be $5. AMS will performat 3pm. The awards ceremony will be at approximately 6 pm and should last about an hour. Critiques are immediately following the awards ceremony and can last up to 2 hours, depending on how we place. I will have your student text you after awards to let you know a more definitive time.If you can, please try to come out and support us at 3pm. It would be great to have a big AMS crowd there!

Please have your child eat/bring breakfast before coming to AMS. If you would like to send snacks with him/her, feel free. I will be purchasing water, juice, and a few snacks for the day. There will also be a concession stand.Lunch will be provided by the AMS theatre department. We will be back to AMS before dinnertime, so dinner will not be provided. However, as a tradition we all go to IHOP after the competition to eat and celebrate. We can not provide rides for all students, but would like everyone involved to come!If you can help drive, please let me know. This is open to EVERYONE in the cast and crew.

March2 & 3we will perform at AMS. It will begin at 7 pm. Since it is a one-act play, the show will only be about 40 minutes long. Call for the students will be at 5:30 pm. Immediately following the performance on Friday night, we will have our cast party. The cast party will be from 8 pm – 9:30 pm in the amphitheatre. Everyone is encouraged to bring a snack or drink to share with the cast and crew.

Lastly, I just want to let you know how fantastic your students are and how awesome they have been these last few months. All of the students have been giving 100% at rehearsals and to their character building. They have worked tremendously hard, even coming to school early in the morning to work on their characters!I am amazed everyday by their talent and commitment.

If you have any questions, please call me at 281-844-3759 or email at . Thank you for all of your help with this production; it’s going to be a great show!

Sincerely,

Jessica AnthisSarah Maake
