FIELD MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

FIELD PREPARATION –Done by HOME team.

  1. Remove and store the mound cover.
  2. Rake and fill all holes and cleat marks in the infield.
  3. Rake, fill, and level the batter’s box area.
  4. Rake the mound and repair all holes.
  5. Holes should be fixed by doing the following:
  1. Clean the hole of all loose dirt (use a broom or brush)
  1. Insert a small amount of Hilltopper into the hole.
  2. Tamp the Hilltopper firmly but not to a point that it becomes hard like cement. It should remain somewhat pliable.
  3. Cover the Hilltopper with brickdust.
  1. Fence drag the infield, base paths, and home plate area.
  2. Lightly moisten the infield dirt areas using the ball valve for the infield and a hose for the base paths and home plate areas.
  3. Chalk/paint the foul lines.
  4. From the back of the plate, stretch a line along the base path.
  5. Use a line and stake to mark out the infield foul lines.
  6. The first and third bases should be in the field of play with the foul side edges of the bases making up the foul line where the chalk line and the base intersect.
  7. Chalk/paint the batter’s boxes using the metal template. The two prongs on the template should be aligned with the flat side of home plate facing the batter’s box.
  8. Remove the base plug inserts and insert the bases

FIELD PREPARATIONAND CLEAN-UP BETWEEN GAMES

  1. Use a rake to repair areas around the bases, infielder stance areas, and the home plate area.
  2. Rake the mound and repair any holes. (See 4.a. above for hole repair instructions)
  3. If the chalk lines are adequate, DO NOT re-chalk.
  4. Rechalk the batter’s boxes.
  5. If the field needs to be re-chalked, pull string and re-paint.
  6. Fence drag the infield, base paths, and home plate area.
  7. Using the ball valve, water the infield area for 1 to 2 minutes; just enough to keep the field moist and the dust down.
  8. Cover the mound.
  9. Sweep and clean the fan areas of all trash, seeds, bottles, etc. (Each side does their own bleachers and dugouts.) Coaches, please remind parents to clean up their side of bleachers and surrounding area after their game
  10. Remove trash bags if full and tie them.
  11. Insert new trash bag in can.

FIELD CLEAN-UP FINAL (visiting team)

  1. Use a rake to repair areas around the bases, infielder stance areas, and the home plate area.
  2. Rake the mound and repair any holes. (See 4.a. above for hole repair instructions)
  3. Fence drag the infield, base paths, and home plate area.
  4. Using a broom, sweep any excess brikdust, clay, dirt from around the edges of the infield grass area and where the infield dirt meets the outfield grass to keep “grass berms” from forming.
  5. Using the ball valve, water the infield area for 5 to 10 minutes depending on how moist or dry the field has become. We want to give the fields a good soak after the conclusion of games.
  6. Cover the mound.
  7. Sweep and clean the fan areas of all trash, seeds, bottles, etc. (Each sides does their own dugout and bleacher areas.)
  8. Remove trash bags and tie them.
  9. Insert new trash bag in can.
  10. Store all equipment including re-lined cans in the storage shed.
