ADVANTAGES OF NEOCOTA OVER OTHER COATING SYSTEMS

AVAILABLE LOCALLY

NEOCOTA has several advantages over other Coating Systems locally available. Some of the main advantages are as follows :-

1.  NEOCOTA has an unique pan geometry which facilitate uniform rolling of all the tablets in the Pan, which ultimately results into high degree of uniform coating.

2.  NEOCOTA Pan has an increased perforated area when compared with other Coating Systems and so in NEOCOTA Pan increased number of Spray Guns can be accommodated, as a result faster coating can be achieved.

3.  Due to increased perforated area, velocity of the drying air passing through the Pan is less. Due to this lower velocity, contact time between the tablet bed and the drying air is more and drying efficiency of the NEOCOTA Pan is higher than the other Coating Systems available. This better drying efficiency also results in minimum coating time.

4.  Lower velocity of the drying air passing through the tablet bed also ensures minimum loss of coating materials.

5.  NEOCOTA Pan is equipped with indigenously developed cylindrical baffles. Combined with the geometry of the Pan, this baffle design ensures thorough mixing of the tablet, uniform rolling and gentle treatment of the tablet during rolling. This results into high degree of uniformity of the coated products, elimination of damages to the tablets even having poor hardness and friability. This also eliminates chances of colour variation of the coated products.

6.  NEOCOTA is equipped with unique spray system, which can perform aqueous and non-aqueous film coating without any change in the System. The air atomized spray System ensures elegant surface finish and eliminates the chances of all sorts of defects in film coated products.

7.  NEOCOTA is quipped with self-diagnostic Alarm Annunciation System for easy and fast detection of any fault in the System for immediate rectification.

GENERAL FEATURES OF NEOCOTA DESIGN

I. INTRODUCTION :-

NEOCOTA Coating System was designed without any effort to copy any Coating System available internationally in early eighties.

With the growing need for suitable system for efficient and cost effective FILM coating of pharma industry in India, Neomachine in Kolkata started development of Automatic Coating System through in house research to manufacture a Coating System which can meet the urgent need of Indian Pharma Industry to introduce new drugs in tablet form such as Ibuprofen, Norfloxin, Siprofloxcin, Metranidazole, Tinidazole and other products.

II.  DESIGN FEATURES :-

During the inception of the basic design parameters it was realized that for efficient and uniform FILM coating of tablets the following processes and their mutually contributive factors are vitally necessary :-

i)  Rolling or Tumbling of tablets of various sizes and shapes in the coating pan.

ii)  Intermixing of tablets in the coating pan.

iii)  Variable speed of the pan to achieve the above mentioned flexible operation during coating.

iv)  Measured and appropriate spray of coating solution to the tablet bed during coating process.

v)  To introduce drying air at different temperature and humidity to continuous drying of tablets by evaporating the solvent (organic or aqueous) used to prepare the coating solution.

vi)  For efficient drying and maximize the use of energy spent to heat the drying air the contact time between the drying air and tablets to be increased to the maximum possible level.

vii)  Due to increased drying efficiency, the coating time required is kept to a minimum which ensures less abrasion and damage to the tablet surfaces due to reduced duration of moving tablets remains inside the pan.

viii)  Due to increased contact time of the drying air with the tablet bed, drying air temperature can be kept at a lower optimum level and most of the coating solution which is sprayed on the tablet bed gets dried on surfaces of the tablets rather than being sprayed dried and escape with the exhaust air which in turns minimize the loss of coating materials.

ix)  Due to less coating materials in the exhaust air, cleaning of the exhaust air through a Wet Scrubber or a suitable Bag Filter becomes more easier and protection of environment from the escape of the foreign materials from the Coating System makes the coating operation more environment friendly.

x)  In NEOCOTA, the built-in cleaning system (C.I.P.) is designed in such a way with the help of multi-stage high pressure water pump, strategically placed jet nozzles and inter-connecting piping, tubing, valves and fittings, that even in the case of colour change and product change the cleaning cycle remains almost same as normal cleaning cycle which is routinely followed for maintenance of the Coating Unit.

xi)  Due to optimization of the spray, drying, rolling and mixing of tablets etc. not only final finishing of the tablets are more elegant reduced due to reduced demand of utilities, coating cost is kept at a minimum level.

xii)  In NEOCOTA, as a design strategy the product which is taken for coating inside the pan is protected from damage under all possible enforseen events. The coating process is discontinued by use of suitable interlocks and automatic stoppage of different functions in the event of possible damage to the tablets coated inside the pan.

xiii)  During the development and design of NEOCOTA, various major and minor parameters which can affect the coating performance of the System where analyzed and during design and execution of the Coating System, the parameters vital for performance and efficiency of the coating are taken into consideration. A list of those parameters is enclosed for your kind reference.

xiv)  With the supply of the NEOCOTA Coating System, all the necessary documents required for validation of the System during installation, commissioning and operation are supplied in systematic manner in form of a document file. We also provide factory acceptance test format, DQ format etc. along with the comprehensive instruction for operation and maintenance of Coating System and various components used.

xv)  During the installation and commissioning of the Coating System our Service Engineers impart sufficient and effective training to the operators and maintenance staff of the client factory so that, they can independently operate and maintain the Coating System during its lifetime.
