The Project-Based Education and its Usage in the Framework Topic „The Profession World“

The dissertation thesis deals with possible usage of project education method within the Framework topic Profession World taught at primary school (or junior secondary school).

Project teaching as such is based upon a complex teaching method that motivates the students not only to solve complex problems; it also provides opportunities to conduct experiments and to cope with practical tasks from which the students gain experience. The method was inspired by practical pedagogy and instrumentalism. In the U.S. the project education was further developed by J.Dewey and W. Klipatrick. The method is widely used in many other countries as well. (1, p. 159)

My dissertation thesis will focus on the possibility to use project teaching within the Framework Topic Profession World to build and develop communicative competence, professional competence and IT competence.

Nowadays, the subject Profession World is taught in the ninth grade at primary school. The goal of the subject is to facilitate an appropriate profession choice and subsequently help the students with school to work transition. (2)

The subject Profession world is mostly taught to all class. All class presentation is a really traditional teaching method which proves appropriate for vast majority of subjects. However, I think that project teaching might highlight the importance of the Profession World as a subject. The quality of education results improved in many aspects. In my opinion, it would be useful to apply project teaching within the subject Profession World because the proposed method has a potential to stress the real - life aspect of Profession World. Students learn about the real shape of the profession world which they are going to enter after professional / vocational training as applicants. The Profession world as a subject is important especially because most students at this age have not definitely chosen their future career yet

The dissertation thesis goals

- The main goal o the dissertation thesis is to provide theoretical basis of the project education within the Framework topic Profession World taught at primary school

- The dissertation thesis also aims to map the usage of project teaching within a general technical subject at primary school

- The thesis aims to propose operational rules for the usage of project teaching within the Framework topic Profession World.

Research methods used

Direct observation during Profession World lessons, a questionnaire for the teachers, Q- methodology, and a scale- based questionnaire for students.
