Euclid Avenue Walk-Through Meeting Notes

March 20, 2013

The Community Code Compliance Team convened at West Lynchburg Baptist Church located at the corner of Memorial Avenue and Eldon Street at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20th for a Walk-Through of the Euclid Avenue Neighborhood. After brief introductions, the group commenced the Walk-Through.

The following is a list of participants and the City departments or agencies they are affiliated:

The following are areas of concern or violations noted by the participants:

Code Compliance

Findings:

One complaint of trash on Yeardley Avenue and one complaint of an above-ground pool holding stagnant water

Summary: Both properties were cited for violations and upon re-inspection property owners complied.

Zoning

Findings:

No Findings

Public Works/Utilities

Findings:

Westover Community Park light not working, retaining wall on Oakley Avenue leaning over sidewalk, and general marking/signage improvements may be needed around New Vista School

Summary: A request to correct the lighting in the park has been made; further study of the retaining wall by Public Works and general improvements around the New Vista School by Traffic Engineering and the Police Department are in review.

Building Inspections

Findings:

Concerns regarding the condition of four structures on Dearing and Early Streets.

Summary: Upon inspection the week after the walk-through, the structure on Langhorne Lane was demolished; the property owner on Yeardley Avenue was cited for the poor condition of an accessory structure and has since been demolished by the property owner; and, the property owner with a loose service entry cable was cited for violations. The property owner complied upon re-inspection.

Police Department

Findings:

General concerns of speeding, vandalism and behavioral problems

Summary: Police Department was aware of issues and working with the neighborhood to address.

Fire Department

Finding:

No Findings

UPDATE

There are no outstanding issues from the Richland Hills Walk-Through held on October 17, 2012.

The next CCCT meeting is scheduled for May 15th in the Fort Hill Neighborhood.
