Attainment Programmes Administrator (Maternity Cover) – minimum 9 months, may extend to 12 months

Salary: Grade 2 - £18,500 - £20,999

Job Summary

The Attainment Programmes team delivers a number of projects which address key Scottish Government education priorities, particularly those around raising attainment for all and closing the poverty-related attainment gap. Key programmes for the team are Read, Write, Count and the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.

The Attainment Programmes Administratorwill providereliable and efficient administration to support the smooth-running of the Attainment Programmes team’s work across both the Read, Write, Count and First Minister’s Reading Challenge programmes The post is providing maternity cover for the current post holder and the contract will be for a minimum of 9 months, which may be extended to 12 months.

A key aspect of the role will be providing administrative and secretarial support to the Reading Challenge Advisory Group and contributing to the successful operation of the Reading Challenge programme across primary schools in Scotland.

The post holder will also provide administrative and operational support to the Attainment Programmes Assistant Manager in delivering the Read, Write, Count programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work flexibly to support the Attainment Programmes team in the administration, logistics and communications involved in programme delivery
  • Carry out administrative tasks to support the work of the Reading Challenge Advisory Group, including working closely with the Chair to organise meetings, make travel arrangements for panel members, organise agendas and papers for meetings and take minutes
  • Plan and organise distribution of materials to schools and local authorities, liaising with suppliers and distributors and resolving any logistical issues
  • Manage and interpret large sets of information and data
  • Organiselarge scale eventsand provide administrative support to other team members when delivering training or workshops across the country
  • Lead on the administration of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge Inspiring Classrooms workstream
  • Deal with email and telephone enquiries about the Attainment Programmes team’s work, ensuring queries are passed to the appropriate members of staff and actioned in a timely manner
  • Work with members of the Attainment Programmes team and other SBT teams on specific pieces of work related to the programmes as required, such as research and evaluation

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Substantial administrative experience, including servicing committees
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management, with the ability to work flexibly to manage multiple prioritiesand meet deadlines
  • High level of IT skills including Microsoft Office and experience of email management
  • Event management experience
  • Skilled in working databases and managing large amounts of information
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders (particularly schools and library services) and members of the public, dealing with any issues in a timely manner and escalating issues where necessary
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and to self-motivate

Other Information

The Attainment Programmes Administrator will be based at Scottish Book Trust’s offices in central Edinburgh, however the post holder must be prepared to travel occasionally for work-related duties.
