July 25, 2016

Greeting War Eagles. Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. With the new construction ready for occupancy, we are excited to share a first glance at the new facilities on Saturday, July 30 from 10am -12 noon at our Grand Opening. Our new spaces include the new competition gym referred to as the Arena at South Forsyth, the plaza between the Arena and the new War Eagle Dining Hall, many new classrooms including new science labs, new band and choral suites, a new counseling suite, and new administrative offices. The office areas make it simple to handle all South business in one convenient area so that you will not need to travel far around campus.

With our student growth in population to 3200 students, we welcome over 850 freshmen and thirty-eight new staff members to our South Family. We have forty portable classrooms this year with the addition of two classrooms to one modular unit in which to house our teachers and students. We have a fabulously talented staff and we are ready for a South Strong year. Our school-wide focus this year will be literacy and writing.

While the new construction is complete, the old East and West Hall cafeteria areas are still under renovation. We hope to assume occupancy of those areas over winter break- ahead of scheduled turnover. The areas under construction will be isolated as much as possible from student foot traffic. As with last year, students, staff and visitors will be asked to respect construction lines at all times. We want to take a moment to reassure you that the safety of our students, staff and community remain our priority during this construction phase.

We are excited and ready for students to return. Traffic patterns will be the same this year as last year in terms of student drop off. A map of the new parking lot will be posted prior to the start of the school year. As with last year, all student drop off and pick up will be in front of the Main Hall off of Highway 141. Parent traffic in the back of East Hall was eliminated last year creating a much safer environment. This practice will continue for the 2016-2017 school year as well.

We consider it a privilege to teach your students. We look forward to working together as a community of stakeholders to prepare our students to adapt to an ever-changing world and compete on the global stage. Hope to see you on campus soon!

As always,

We are…South Forsyth.
