AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND LISA TROTT FOR NINETEEN YEARS AS AN OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR IN CHARLESTON COUNTY AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED THE 20122013 CHARLESTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTTEACHER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Lisa Trott was named Charleston County School District’s20122013 Teacher of the Year at a Charleston RiverDogs game at Riley Park on Friday, May 10, 2013; and
Whereas, along with this honor, she will receive a oneyear’s lease on a 2013 Volvo S16from Volvo of Charleston and two hundred fifty dollars from Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union; and
Whereas, every school selects a teacher of the year, each of whom becomesa nominee for the county title andsubmits an application packet to the school district. A representative group of teachers from across the district comprise the superintendent’s Teacher Roundtable and chooses five finalists; and
Whereas, a panel of educators from outside the districtthen makes the final selection based onthe applications, recommendations, interviews, and classroom observations of the finalists; and
Whereas, a fourthgrade teacher at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementaryin West Ashley, Lisa Trott had noplans to become a teacher when she entered college, beginning with a major in journalism and finishing with a degree in retail management; and
Whereas, after she married and had her first child, she chose to enter the teachingprofession as a career becauseshe felt it would be better suited to her family priorities; and
Whereas, an exceptional educator with National Board Certification, Mrs. Trott has taught in Charleston County schoolsfor nineteen years and has remained at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementarysince 2000, which she considers the best school in Charleston County; and
Whereas, she enjoys the challenge of teaching students to expect more out of themselves, to stretch their abilities, and to become the very best people they can be; and
Whereas, Mrs. Trott helped to start a club called Helping Hands for students at the school who werenot chosen for artsspecific clubs, and they participate in a broad variety of school activities, from being book buddies to taking charge of the school recycling program; and
Whereas,she directs a morning exercise team that choreographs short routines,which air on the morning news show,aimed at getting all students up and moving; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the significant impact that dedicated educators such as Lisa Trott have on molding the minds of our youthfor adult roles in the Palmetto State and applaud her selection as Charleston County School District’s Teacher of the Year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Lisa Trott for nineteen years as an outstanding educator in Charleston County and congratulate her upon being named the 20122013 Charleston County School DistrictTeacher of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Lisa Trott.
