POST OF COLLEGE COUNSELLOR P/T

JOB PURPOSE

To provide a confidential counselling service to Selby College students and staff (when requested), ensuring provision is available to all. To deliver group work where appropriate to promote the service across Selby College.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

To provide a specialist professional service, on a confidential basis, to individual students who are experiencing personal difficulties

Work closely with Guidance & Support Tutors, Student Services staff and the Students Union on activities relevant to the well-being of the student body

Build and maintain appropriate links with external agencies, which contribute to the support and welfare of students

Ensure the quality of the counselling service through effective review and action planning

Seek to minimise the effect of cultural and gender differences on the take up of the counselling service

Make referrals to other support services where appropriate

Provide/deliver group activities where appropriate in support of students needs

Play a key role in helping students with their academic progress and personal/social development through group counselling

Maintain case records and produce an annual report to the Senior Management Team (subject to the confidentiality requirements of the service)

Commitment to receive ongoing supervision from a counselling service

Work within the ethical framework of BACP

Recognise where counselling is not appropriate and supportively refer individuals on to services or agencies which are more suited to the persons needs

Undertake other duties as required commensurate with the nature and grade of post

Undertake relevant staff training

NOTE

GENERAL

  1. Implement the College’s current Quality Assurance systems.
  1. Participate in staff training, development and appraisal systems to enhance personal performance and organisational effectiveness.
  1. To undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with College policies inclusive of Equal Opportunities, Data Protection, Child and Vulnerable Adult protection, Radicalisation and Extremism and Quality and Financial regulations and to report any concerns to the appropriate person
  1. Team participation: all members of teams are required to contribute to ensure team responsibilities are discharged as effectively as possible.
  1. Work flexibly to meet the needs of the business customers.
  1. Other duties or responsibilities as are commensurate with the post, according to the exigencies of the service.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Hours:10 hours per week, 36 weeks per annum – this may be increased to 15 hours dependant on demand

Holidays:As this is a 36 week contract you are not entitled to take holidays therefore this will be added onto the salary

Salary:£22,763 - £24,236 per annum pro rata(dependant on Experience)
