Rules and Procedures for the Physical Education Department

INSTRUCTOR’S: Mr. Guzman and Mrs. McLaws

GUIDELINES:

The student will be dressed out and on the roll line for roll call 5 minutes after the bell rings. Dressing out, on line for roll call and the class warm-up is part of the students participation grade.

The student will be dressed in Physical Education trunks; no zippers, buttons or snaps, no cut-off jeans of any kind will be worn in class. You must wear a full length T-shirt with your shorts or sweats may be worn. Wear clean gym shoes (nothing that will leave black marks on the gym floor). SHOES MUST BE TIED TIGHTLY OUTSIDE THE TONGUE OF THE SHOE. (no skateboarding shoes). No alcohol, tobacco or vulgar writing will be allowed on Physical Education clothes. No athletic issued W.H.S. uniforms or practice gear will be worn in class. (TAKE YOUR CLOTHES HOME ON FRIDAY TO BE WASHED AND BRING THEM BACK TO SCHOOL FOR CLASS ON THE NEXT SCHOOL DAY).

There will be NO gum during class, NO jewelry of any kind will be worn in class except medical. A written notice must be given to the instructor regarding any medical jewelry, pierced earrings etc., you will need to provide your own tape and tape over them until they can be removed.

Inhalers (must fill out a form in the nurses office to have in class).

The student will be expected to participate at all times. Unexcused non-dress students will go to the Safe Room to do written work for class. If you are sick you must have a note from your doctor or your parents. A note is needed for each day of the illness or injury. Work will be done in writing in the Safe Room for the excuse from participation each day. You will also need a release to participate from you doctor at the end of your illness or injury. On days an athlete has a game, match or meet there will be light activities of some type. The only time a student will not be required to suit out is when you come dressed for an away game and the bus is leaving in the next hour.

The student will be ask to take care of all Physical Education and Weight equipment, many items are breakable: “Lets take care of it!”

If a student knows they are going to be checked out during class time, let the instructor know and take all equipment with you, the locker room will be locked and you will not return to the locker room.

Your handbook is your responsibility, have it with you when you come to the gym for class.

GRADING: Grades will be determined from the following.

1. Absences – Excused +6 points Unexcused 0 points

2. A weekly grade will be recorded for participation and skill worksheets for the Presidential Physical Fitness test and Weight Lifting (Bigger/Faster/Stronger program).

3. Written work will be assigned for non-dress students and they will be sent to the Safe Room.

4. Refer to the Rubric Chart for Grading.

5. Semester grade – the two nine week letter grades averaged with the semester test, if a student has two or less absences per-semester, they will not be required to take the semester final.

UNEXCUSED NON-DRESS POLICY PER-SEMESTER

1st, 2nd and 3rd non-dress…..Minus 10 points and the student will be assigned to In House for the hour with work to be done. If work is not completed the student will be sent to the office with a discipline slip for insubordination.

4th non-dress…..Minus 10 points and parent contact with a written notice and the student will be assigned to In House with work to be completed.

5th non-dress…..Minus 10 points and the student is placed on contract and a letter is sent home. The student will be assigned to In House for work to be completed.

6th non-dress…..Student will earn an “F” at 50% for the semester and a letter will be sent home. The student will be sent to In House for work to be completed. The student may write one report per semester to remove the 6th non-dress to earn a 60%, D grade for the semester. After the report if there is an additional unexcused non-dress (7th non-dress), the student earns 50% for an “F” for the semester.

After the locker room door is shut and locked, the student will be tardy and considered to have earned a non-dress for that day. Notes from staff personnel will be considered.

DEDUCTIONS:

*Student will not be permitted to bring I-POD’s MP3 or cameras of any kind to class.

*There will always be a warm-up for class.

*Locker rooms will be locked. Lock your things up during class in a large locker with your padlock.

*No one is allowed in the locker room during class time.

*DO NOT give out your padlock combination to anyone. Do not share lockers or padlocks. *You may buy a padlock from W.H.S. in the book store or bring your own padlock from home.

*Instructors or W.H.S. are not responsible for stolen items.

*Once dressed at the end of the hour, wait for the bell to be released from the locker room.

*No food or drinks allowed in the gym or the weight room during class time, you may have water.

ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES AT ANYTIME!

I have read and agree to the preceding guidelines set forth by the Physical Education Department of Winslow High School. I agree to share these guidelines with my parents so they are aware of the expectations set forth for me.
