Job Context: / The Inclusive Sport project is an exciting new national YMCA Project funded through Sport England and originating from work based at RRYMCA that will support young people with disabilities to design their own national network of fully inclusive sports clubs. The post holder will be responsible for the introduction and development of7 'Youth Led' Inclusive Sports Clubs in YMCA managed Youth Centres across East Surrey. These clubs will offer a diverse range ofactivity that will challenge old fashioned perceptions of sport for disabled people. The project will alsoenhance skills and build confidence through integrated volunteer leadership and buddying activity for young people aged 16 plus.
Job Title: / Inclusive Sports Project Coordinator

Responsible for: / 7 Inclusive Sports Clubs, 2 p/t Youth Workers in each club plus sessional NGB coaches and the welfare of up to 120 young people signed up to each club
Job Purpose: / To develop and manage the Redhill YMCA Inclusive Sports Project (ISP) a Sport England funded project that will offer opportunities for young people with disabilities to develop through participation and volunteering in sport.
Main Responsibilities: /
  1. To work with young people to set up 7 inclusive sports clubs each based either in or within a 2 mile radius of the YMCA managed Youth Centres in East Surrey. Each club to cater predominantly for those with physical disability or learning disability and to operate for a minimum of 4 hours per week attracting up to 25 young people to each session.
  1. To develop and manage a thriving and valued programme of sporting opportunities and physical activity for young people with disability and complex needs that will help them gain confidence and enhance their personal development.
  1. To work closely with the YMCA V Buddies Coordinator to recruit, train and support an integrated group of 10 young volunteers per setting who can go on to assist with leadership and general operation of the clubs.
  1. To match young able bodied volunteers with young people who have disability and facilitate at least 3 opportunities per club per month for buddying and befriending activity
  1. To work with the Active Living Coordinator and Community Games Organiser toarrange CSLA trainingfor young people so they can assist in the organisation and delivery of disability sport 'try outs' and Community Games events.
  1. To facilitate and support an Advisory Group made up from users of the clubs, volunteers and other stakeholders that can help steer the future development of the service.
  1. To attend meetings of the national YMCA Inclusive Sports Club network at which all the 7 YMCAs and 19 satellite clubs will be represented.
  1. To work closely with related RRYMCA Projects such asActive Living, Young Health Champions, V Buddies, Yip4Youth, Y Mania, Gateway and the Friday Night Project which focus on physical activity and sport for young people with disability and long term ill health.
  1. To recruit, manage and develop suitable teams of volunteers and paid youth workers and NGB coaches for each of the 7 inclusive sports clubs and to carry out regular staff appraisals, supervision and one to ones.
  1. To regularly attend the 7 Inclusive Sports Clubs to observe youth workers in action and to take a lead role where possible in the provision of sporting activity.
  1. To work closely with the YMCA Centre Based Youth Work team who are responsible for managing youth work at the 7 centres and to liaise with them and the Youth and Community Workers at each site over lettings and facility issues.
  1. To work with the Marketing Coordinator and Head of Youth Services to ensure that Inclusive Sports Project activities are marketed effectively and economicallyand to contribute to the production ofpublicity materialsand the use of advertising, promotions, web site and other internet marketing including social media sites.
  1. To assist the Head of Youth Services with fundraising activity including preparing information for grant applications and monitoring reports, and to encourage and support young people to take on fundraising challenges such as the Surrey Supercycle and Fun Run/Sports Festival.
  1. To give talks and carry out presentations about the Inclusive Sport Project and other related YMCA work for potential donors, other agencies and at relevant forums as and when necessary.
  1. To assist the Youth Services Administrator and Head of Youth Services to configure the new Inclusive Sports Projects on the YMCA Social Impact Tracker System and to ensure that all young people and the activity they participate in is entered onto the system. To also work with Admin to produce reports for monitoring purposes as and when required by YMCA England, Sport England or the Head of Youth Services.
  1. To work with the Operations Manager, HR Officer and Head of Youth Services to ensure that all the necessary policies and procedures are in place to manage the project with due regard to employment legislation, health and safety guidelines and child protection.
  1. To work with the Head of Youth Services and Finance Manager to agree the project's annual budget and to subsequently manage this budget and take responsibility for financial control.
  1. To carry out risk assessments on activities and facilities used for the Inclusive Sports Project and to assess the support needs of young people with disabilities to ensure that they or other people attending the clubs will not be at risk.
  1. To provide regular written reports to the Head of Youth Servicesas required on the progress of all clubs and to attend and present reports at relevantmanagement meetings.
  1. To work with other YMCA staff to monitor and evaluate the programme through collection of statistical data and regular consultation with young people, parents and social services staff and to use this information to improve the provision on offer.
  1. To work in partnership with other YMCA projects, Surrey County Council, Reigate and Banstead Council, Active Surrey, the Surrey Consortium of Play and Leisure Providers for Children with Disability and other agencies to extend services and improve quality of provision for local young people and families.
  1. To take responsibility for Child Protection issues at the inclusive sports clubs and to report any concerns as per YMCA policy to the CPLO and/orrelevant local authorities
  1. To undertake such other tasks as may be allocated from time to time by the Head of Youth Services.

Environment: / The Inclusive Sports Project Coordinator will be based at the Sovereign Centre which is the YMCA's exciting new facility for children and young people located in Woodhatch which has undergone a recent £1m rebuild and refit. The YMCA Sovereign Centre is a welcoming base for young people's services and activities and a place where they can develop the skills and confidence to achieve positive outcomes. The new build areas feature a purpose built disability hub equipped with two brand new fully accessible multi activity rooms, a sensory room and soft play room, an open reception area, a kitchen and office facilities plus a counselling room. Existing facilities include a badminton court sized sports hall, a martial arts studio (Dojo) and a drop in centre with kitchen and internet cafe. The centre also has its own floodlit outside area which has been separated into an area for ball games and a newly installed adapted playarea.
The Sovereign is one of 4 centres in Reigate and Banstead that are owned or managed by the YMCA. The others are a Sports and Community Centre in Earlswood, the Banstead YMCA Sure Start Children's Centre, and Hillbrook House (supported housing for 42 young people) in Redhill. From these facilities the YMCA offers a variety of services including youth work, out of school childcare, play, sport, physical activity, counselling and volunteering. Services are both universal and targeted and span a wide geographical area including most of East Surrey.
The YMCA also holds a contract via the Youth Consortium to manage youth work in seven youth centres around East Surrey. This work is managed by YMCA Youth Services and delivered by professional youth workers employed by SCCC but seconded to the YMCA. It is in these centres that the new clubs will be based.
The Inclusive Sports Project will consist of seven inclusive clubs located in or nearby to the Surrey Youth Centres managed by the YMCA. They are; The Bridge, Ashtead and Malt House in Mole Valley, The Edge and Lintons in Epsom and Ewell and the Street and Harry's in Tandridge.
Scale and Impact: / The postholder will directly manage a number of part time youth workers and casual NGB Coaches who will deliver activities in the clubs. He or she will also work closely with a team of other coordinators, youth workers and sports specialists who deliver a range of projects for young people with disability from either the YMCA Sovereign or the YMCA Sports Centre in Princes Rd. The postholder will be managed by a Head of Youth Services who will also provide strategic support for other youth work including Centre Based Youth Work contracts in the 7 Surrey Centres and Escape and Smart, two youth work projects targeted at those considered at risk of becoming NEET.
The Project has an annual budget £126k including contributions in kind and matching funds.
Discretion to Act: / While part of the YMCA senior staff team and reporting regularly to the Head Of Children's Services, the Sovereign Manager will have discretion to act within the agreed budget guidelines and to make decisions on a day-to-day basis within the post holders's areas of responsibility. Longer-term decisions and major changes will be made on agreement with the Head Of Youth Services, the CEOand the YMCA Programme Committee.
Relationships: / The post holder will be part of the YMCA Youth Services Team and they will be expected to attend regular meetings chaired by the Head of Youth Services along with representatives from other similar projects. The post-holder will report to the Head of Youth Services and will be expected to liaise with local schools and colleges, Social Services, Health, Active Surrey, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Surrey County Council Services for Children and Young People. The post holder will be expected to build good working relationships with Youth and Community Workers at each Surrey Youth Centre where clubs will be running and will have contact with the HR Officer and Operations Manager relating to staffing and IT.
Salary / c. £26,000 p.a. depending on experience and qualifications.
Working hours / 40 hrs per week with 1 hr lunch break per day. Weekly schedule of hours to be agreed with Head of Youth Services but will include up to 3 evenings and some weekends, especially during the initial set up of clubs.
