Research Scientist
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Function:
This position will provide scientific oversight and leadership for IFSI’s research and educational programs. Specifically, this position will conduct biomechanics and cardiovascular research related to the fire service.
Responsibilities:
· Oversee research in biomechanics and cardiovascular studies involving the fire service population
· Coordinate and collaborate on Institute sponsored research projects with University of Illinois faculty and staff as well as external research partners
· Collaborate with IFSI research and training staff in conducting basic and applied research as related to the fire service
· Publish research findings in peer-reviewed and trade journals as well as translational project reports specific to fire service audiences
· Assist in processing biomechanics and cardiovascular related research projects through the Institutional Review Board Process
Reporting Relationship:
The position reports directly to the Research Director, who reports to the Director of the Illinois Fire Service Institute, who reports to the Provost.
Required Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Kinesiology, or medical related field
· Experience in human subjects testing, particularly with military or paramilitary populations such as police, fire, and EMS.
· Experience in the design of experiments, experimental protocol, and data acquisition for human subjects testing
· Research specialization in Bioengineering, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Cardiology, or related
· Familiarity with cardiovascular structure and function measurements (for example: cardiac ultrasound, applanation tonography, and/or venous occlusive plethysmography) and/or balance and gait analysis tools (for example, motion capture analysis, force plate analysis, and/or Gait Mat).
Additional Desired Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Engineering, Kinesiology, or medical related field preferred
Salary is commensurate with experience.
This is a 100%-time, 12-month academic professional position with regular University benefits; start date as soon as possible after the closing of the search.
