Aboriginal dance in the Northern Territory

ACHPER Western Australian Branch

The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation Inc. (ACHPER) represents over 3,000 professionals working in the fields of health, physical education, human movement studies, sport, recreation, dance and community fitness. ACHPER promotes healthy living for all Australians and supports education in the promotion of these values.

AEG Ogden

Manages the operation of multiple venues throughout Australia include several in Western Australia. Site provides useful specifications about venues including the State Theatre Centre of WA’s two spaces, Perth Concert Hall and Subiaco Arts Centre, for example.

Arts Access Victoria

Arts Access Victoria has a state-wide focus with programs in metro, outer-metro and regional Victoria. Our programs adopt a community-strengthening approach that is characterised by strong community-based partnerships, led by people with a disability.

ArtsEdge

ArtsEdge facilitates collaboration between the education, arts and cultural sectors. They support arts education through partnerships and enrichment of skills through professional learning programs. Website includes a calendar of professional learning and other arts education activities.

Artssmart

Website developed by the Department of Education and Child Development in South Australia designed to promote arts education in South Australia. Includes links and resources in support of arts education including dance.

AusStage

AusStage provides an accessible research facility for investigating live performance in Australia. AusStage features the input from industry and university representatives committed to live performance in Australia.

The Australian Ballet

Site dedicated to Australia’s oldest professional ballet company. Documents their history, productions and some of the education opportunities for students and teachers interested in Australian ballet.

Australian Copyright Council

For Dance relevant guidelines, click on Find an Answer which then shows answers to frequently asked questions. The Australian Copyright Council is an independent, non-profit organisation formed in 1968. Their mission is to advance the arts and the creative industries in Australia by promoting the value of copyright.

Australia Council for the Arts

The Australia Council for the Arts is the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body. ACA support Australia’s arts through funding and advocacy of the arts sector. ACA collaborate to build audiences, foster support programs and commission and promote research in arts education.

Australia dancing

The Australia Dancing portal, hosted by the National Library of Australia, provides users with access to both current and historical information about dance in Australia. The primary zone describes dance research materials held by the National Library of Australia, the National Film and Sound Archive, and other selected institutions. Some of this material is directly accessible in digital formats.

Australian Dance Theatre

Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) is Australia's oldest professional contemporary dance company. This site showcases current productions, professional learning opportunities and some media relevant to current and previous productions by ADT.

Bangarra Dance Theatre

Bangarra Dance Theatre is Australia’s leading Indigenous performing arts company. Bangarra is recognised nationally and internationally for distinctive dance theatre performances. Site includes images and information about past and present dance productions.

The Blue Room Theatre

Performing Arts Centre Society (PACS) trade under the name “The Blue Room” dedicated to providing resources and support for independent performing arts practitioners. Site provides information about upcoming productions, local venues and other projects undertaken by PACS.

Buzz Dance Theatre

Western Australian based professional dance theatre company, established in 1985. Site features past and present productions as well as a comprehensive education section that includes professional learning opportunities for students and teachers.

Chunky Move

Chunky Move’s work seeks to redefine contemporary dance within an ever-evolving Australian culture. Site includes information about current and past productions as well as professional learning opportunities for students and teachers.

Country Arts WA

Country Arts WA is a not-for-profit, membership based organisation focused on supporting arts and cultural development across regional Western Australia. The role of Country Arts WA is to enable and empower regional Western Australians to develop and enrich their communities through engagement with culture and the arts. Portals provide information and support for communities, artists and young people.

Culture kiosque

Culture-kiosque brings their readership news about the arts, culture and ideas worldwide, delivering original, largely exclusive coverage and commentary about Europe, North America, and around the world. For information about dance programs and projects, click Dance at the top of the start page.

Dance magazine

Interactive online dance community located in the United States discussing, exploring and showcasing dance performances throughout the US. Includes a collection of videos and images for amateur and professional dance works.

Dancehouse

Dancehouse is a membership based independent contemporary dance company in Australia promoting dance through its program of research, training and performance. Site includes information about dance, research, performance and professional learning opportunities.

Dance Sport Australia

DanceSport is what used to be referred to as competitive Ballroom Dancing. Site provides information about competitions, events, coaching and general information about ballroom dancing.

Department of Culture and the Arts, Government of Western Australia.

DCA emphasises “public value” including the ways in which our community supports, participates in and relates to arts and culture. DCA’s plan includes its Arts in Education program through “Creative Connections: An Arts in Education Partnership Framework 2010 – 2014”: a Department of Culture and the Arts and Department of Education joint release.

His Majesty's Theatre

Provides useful information about performances presented on the historic Hi Majesty’s Theatre stage, tours available and important information about the venues available to outside groups.

International Dance Day

International Dance Day’s message is to celebrate Dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together with a common language — Dance.

Jacob’s Pillow Dance

Each year thousands of people from across the U.S. and around the globe visit Western Massachusetts to experience the Festival with more than 50 dance companies and 200 free performances, talks, and events. Site includes a range of education and other support materials designed to promote and support dance.

The Kennedy Center – ArtsEdge

The Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts is located in Washington, DC. With new portals for arts-active families and young people, and a fully-updated digital library of arts-centred interactive resources. Has portals of information for teachers, families and students.

Kidnetic.com

Website started in 2002 to promote healthy lifestyles. Kidnetic.com comprises an integrated educational resource designed for kids aged 9–12 and their families, health professionals and educators. Features quick and easy-to-use information for visitors.

National Institute of Dramatic Art

Performance Arts Institute located in New South Wales, Australia. Site provides information about various courses on offer as well as tours and other programs as well as their performance program open to the general public.

The Nederlands Dans Theater

From its home base in The Hague, Nederlands Dans Theater makes contemporary dance which every year tens of thousands of people from all over the world come to enjoy. Site includes information about the company, current shows and media relevant to past productions and events.

PICA

PICA is both a producing and presenting institution that runs a year round program of changing exhibitions, seasons in contemporary dance, theatre and performance and a range of interdisciplinary projects. Includes some useful education resources about contemporary performances.

QL2 – Quantum Leap

Canberra based youth Dance Company offering programs, training and support for people aged 8-26. Site offers information about their work including a sequencing of their hands-on projects for middle primary to adulthood.

Restless Dance Company

Dance company situated in Adelaide working with people with and without disability developing dance skills and showcasing original dance works. Site includes educational and other support materials including some teachers guides.

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge Australia

Events are produced by the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® Foundation, a not for profit organisation. The event offers schools a chance to take part in a dance, drama and design competition. Site also offers portals for students, teachers and sponsors.

Steps Youth Dance Company

STEPS Youth Dance Company is a not for profit part-time organisation offering dance experiences for young people. STEPS engages Arts professionals to inspire, mentor and work with young company members (9–25) to expose them to the possibilities of dance.

Strut Dance

Strut dance connects choreography from across the world with audiences, within the dance community and contemporary dance with other art forms as the Choreographic Development Centre in Western Australia. Site includes productions, artist support, dance theory and processes and some media of productions past and present.

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park enables guests to experience the traditional Tjapukai culture. Site includes information about tours, special events, cultural history of the Tjapukai community and education resources for students and for teachers.

Theatrecrafts

Theatrecrafts.com develops a resource for theatre technicians. Site includes a theatre design and craft glossary, information about back stage and behind the scenes work in theatre organised into broad categories.

Vibe

Vibe is an Aboriginal media, communications and events management agency situated in Darlinghurst, Sydney, specialising in media products and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Site includes activities, a magazine, events, radio and television features, education support and resources and media of past and present events.

Victorian College of the Arts - Dance

Provides post-compulsory training and education in arts practice including dance. For information about their support services, performances and training, click on Performing Arts on the start page – on the left then click on Areas of Specialisation – Dance.

Victorian Essential Learning Standards: The Arts

Click on the top of the screen Domains – click on The Arts from the drop down list. Site provides a range of support materials and guides to the teaching of the Arts as a holistic discipline including dance.

Wakakirri National Arts Competition for Schools

The Wakakirri Association is committed to providing rich storytelling and arts opportunities for Australian schools, whilst also promoting sustainable practices. Students are encouraged to learn about themselves and others through the creation and sharing of stories. Portal offers areas for primary and high school groups, Outback Wakakirri and the association itself.

Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts

Creative Arts Institute located in Western Australia. Site provides information about various courses on offer as well as tours and other programs as well as their performance program open to the general public.

Yirra Yaakin

Yirra Yaakin exists to share Aboriginal stories. YY look to the past to help define the present, and pass stories on for the future. YY artists and outcomes will improve the cultural health of all involved and allow space for an Aboriginal voice to be heard. Site includes some useful video extracts of past productions as well as some resource packs in support of past productions.

West Australian Ballet

The Company is based in Perth and resides at the West Australian Ballet Centre in Maylands. WA Ballet produces three to four major seasons in Perth, regional touring throughout Western Australia, an education program and other community activities. Site contains support materials, media and details about events past and present.
