1835. E B Sherman was secretary of meeting at Cassopolis MI regarding the Maumee branch railroad (Detroit Free Press Dec 22 1935).
1836. Elias B and Jonathan Brown platted and recorded the town of Shakespeare in Cass Co, located at the Long Rapids of the Dowagiac River. Many of the more than 1000 lots were sold, no building was ever built and it remained a paper village (MI Place Names by Romig, p507).
