Wally needs a new lounge chair

or

pick your own problem to solve

Narrative:

Wally, the Green Monster mascot for the Boston Red Sox, likes to sit in his lounge chair to relax in while watching Red Sox Games. But someone has taken his lounge chair. It’s not so bad. He really didn’t like the one he had anyway.

Design Statement:

Design a lounge chair that will solve Wally’s problem letting him while away the summer months watching his beloved Red Sox beat ever team they face.

Constraints:

·  Chair must fit Wally Comfortably or work for what ever stated application/problem you have chosen

·  You must build a working prototype of your design from the Inventor working drawings

·  Cardboard, Popsicle Sticks, paper tubes, string or similarly inexpensive items found around one’s house, are the only materials allowed to be used in construction of your prototype

·  The cost of all materials in your prototype must not exceed $5

·  The Sheet Metal design tools in Inventor must be used to created your design

Suggested Output

·  Basic Sketches of your proposed designs

·  Working Drawings of all components

o  All individual part & accompanying blank (flat part) drawings are expected

·  Assembly drawings

o  Exploded

o  Part listed

Decision Analysis & Matrix

·  A working prototype of your final design

Going Beyond

·  Build your design without external fasteners or adhesives and receive up to 25 bonus points

·  Build your design as an assembly and earn a n additional 25 bonus points

·  Color, paint or add decals to your prototype

·  Test your product to determine its strength

·  Complete a full portfolio submission with concluding statement

Skills Needed:

·  Knowledge of sketching, decision analysis process, feature creation in Inventor,

·  Inventor’s sheet metal environment

o  It is recommended that you do the Inventor Sheet Metal Tutorial before doing this project

·  How to create assemblies in Inventor

·  How to document all final drawings

Alternate solutions:

·  Choose a problem similar to this one, that requires use of the sheet metal tools in Inventor and design a solution to it. The problem must be approved prior to your work on it by the teacher.

·  You might build a chair for your GI Joe figurine or Barbie Doll collection. It doesn’t need to be a chair. It could be a bookcase, hammock, set of drawers, swing set, toy chest, gizmo, etc.

·  You just need to clear whatever you choose design by your instructor
