This is the first assignment. choose any one of these topics and write 3 to 4 paragraphs on the topic. It doesnt matter the format.
“The shortest total length of a project is determined by the longest path through the network.” Explain the concept behind this statement. Why does the longest path determine the shortest project length?
Does the critical path contain the most critical and complicated tasks on a project? Does it stay the same throughout the project life cycle? Any implication for project time management?
Discuss methods for shortening a project schedule. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of shortening project schedules?
What is a milestone? Provide a few examples of milestones for a sample project.

What is a milestone? A milestone is usually one completed task in a project that would also include other milestones that are completed in the total task in order to have the project done. A milestone is usually a benchmark of work for a project completed that with other milestones completed will result in the entire project being complete. Three examples follow.

The entire project could involve working on the construction of a new condominium complex in a downtown location of any major city in America. When the existing building that was previously in the place of the upcoming new condominium has been demolished, this is one milestone complete. Once the previous building is demolished then the gutting of the ground in order to start constructing the condominium would need to be done and once this is complete, that is also another milestone complete. The concrete would need to be laid down in the gutted earth, particularly if that foundation for the new condominium will be an underground garage with electrical wattage that will support the building, the completion of this task is another milestone complete. The completion of the constructed condominium would be the completion of many milestones completed. Next, I will discuss the milestones for another project.

In a project that involves the creation of a course that will be used in a teaching or pedagogy situation, researching the subject area would be the first task and the completion of doing the research on the subject area would be the first milestone complete. The second milestone that would be completed would be creating the presentation slides with presentation notes for the actual lecture each week of the course. The completion of this latter task would be the second milestone complete. The next milestone would be creating any handouts and/or readings that would be associated with the subject matter and this would be another milestone complete. Once the course is reaching either its final exams and/or final project, this would be the completion of all milestones.

Another example of milestones is in writing a book. As each chapter from Chapter 1 to whatever will be the final chapter is completed – this is an indication of each milestone complete. When the book is published and ready for sale, this is the full completion of all milestones.
