  • Synthesis, modification, characterization and application of zeolites and mesoporous materials for specialty and fine chemicals.
  • Developed eco-friendly processes for the oxyhalogenation of organic compounds using non-hazardous salts like KBr, KCl, KI, NH4Br, NH4Cl, NH4I
  • Developed eco-friendly oxidative transformation of unsaturated compounds to valuable synthetic intermediates.
  • Synthesis, characterization and catalytic evaluation of new chiral phosphine metal complexes derived from carbohydrates for asymmetric synthesis.
  • Evaluation of hydrotalcites – as catalysts for various organic transformations

QRS Fellow : (October 1998 – September 2001)

Physical Chemistry & Catalysis Division, IICT, Hyderabad – 500 007, India
  • Working on the synthesis, modification, characterization and application of zeolites for specialty and fine chemicals.
  • Synthesis of Pyridine and Picolines - Sponsored Project

Post Doctoral Fellow : (October 1996 – September 1997)

Fine Chemicals Division, DTIQ/IBQTA/INETI, LISBON, PORTUGAL

During this period I have worked on the synthesis, electrochemical behaviour and radical scavenging evaluation of a series of 14 diarylamines obtained by arylation of anilines derived from dehydroabietic acid, the main component of disproportionate rosin. Their redox properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and their free radical scavenging activity was tested in dilution assays on the reduction of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radical, proving the four diarylamines with lower oxidation potential to be as active as isopropyldiphenylamine (IPPD) and superior to t-butylhydroxytoluene (BHT), synthetic antioxidants commercially available. It was possible to establish structure-property-activity relationships between oxidation potential and substitution pattern on the aromatic ring of the diterpenic moity.

Research Associate : (January 1996 – October 1996)

Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad – 500 007, India.

Graduate Research : (April 1991 – September1995)

  • Synthesis and characterization of new chiral phosphines derived from carbohydrates such as D-Manitol and D-Sorbital. The chiral phosphine complexes display moderate enantioselectivity in the asymmetric hydrogenation of methyl ester of benzamidocinnamic acid.
  • Evaluation of hydrotalcites – as catalysts for various organic transformations such as Hydroperoxidations, oxidations and nucleophilic additions in liquid phase conditions.
  • Poly oxy metal cations have intercalated in the interlayers of montmorillonite. Which is used for asymmetric catalysis.

Experimental and Instrumentation Experience

I acquainted experience in handling the reactions at ambient and inert conditions. Experience in Microwave irradiation reactions using sophisticated instruments like ETHOS MR etc. I acquired with various chromatographic (TLC, PTLC, Column, GC and HPLC) and interpretation of the structure of organic compounds using 1HNMR,13CNMR, Mass, FTIR and CHNS analysis etc. Characterization of zeolites and mesoporous material catalysts by BET surface area, XRD, FTIR, TG/DTA, solid state NMR, SEM, EDX, TPD etc. techniques. Highly conversant with the experimental techniques such as GC, HPLC, thin layer chromatography and column chromatography. I have working experience on high vacuum lines, Schlenk techniques and High pressure reactors.
