2017 Scholarship Package
Application Description and Guidelines
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Colorado Chapter Board of Directors continues to focus on the future of social work and the need to recruit more social workers into the profession. In keeping with this goal, the NASW StudentScholarship Fund was established in 2017 to support students in their education and pursuit of careers in social work.
The NASW Colorado Chapter Board of Directors seeks applicants that meet the following eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Resident of Colorado (verification by tax form; driver’s license; utility bill).
- Attend a CSWE accredited social work program (or applying for accreditation)full-time or part-time:
- In person at a campus physically located in Colorado OR
- Online at a Colorado based university.
- BSW student who will be a senior at the start of the Fall 2017 semester.
Application Guidelines:
- Application and all application materials must be submitted by June 30, 2017.
- Applicants are required to submit an application form and accompanying materials via email to . All forms and accompanying materials should be submitted as attachments in the email.
- All documents created by applicants should be single-spaced, 12-point font, and 1” margins.
- Incomplete or late application packages will not be considered.
Application Materials To Be Submitted:
1. A copy of an unofficial transcript from the past two trimesters or semesters.
2. One signed and dated professional letter of recommendation
- Such as from an NASW member, University professor, or employer.
3. A current resume, which should include work history, volunteer experience, internships, etc.
4. A statement of need and/or merit:
- Explain why you are applying for this scholarship; make a case for why the committee should consider your application (1-2 pages).
- The Award Committee may consider these factors:
- Financial need
- Academic performance
- Community involvement, volunteer work
- Personal story
- Future plans and goals.
- Biographical Essay
- 1-3 pages describing your life experiences ~ tell us about who you are and why you are interested in being a social worker.
6. A signed copy of the scholarship application form.
Review Process:
- The NASWCO Scholarship Selection Subcommittee will make the final selection of scholarship recipients.
Scholarship Restrictions:
- The scholarship award will be made directly to each individual recipient (not to the social work program or any other designee).
- The scholarship is awarded without any restrictions or requirements; that is, recipients can use their award for any purpose.
- The scholarship award may be subject to income tax. Please check with a tax advisor on this matter. NASW Colorado Chapter does not assume any liability to scholarship recipients for these awards.
