How worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and divinity, and wisdom and strength and honour. To him belong glory and authority for ever and ever.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 122
Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
I rejoiced when they said to me,
”Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
And now our feet are standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord,
For Israel’s witness it is to praise the name of the Lord.
There were set the thrones for judgement,
the thrones of the house of David.
Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Alleluia!

The Lord sits as King forever. The Lord will bless his people with peace.

The St Vincent de Paul Society starts its annual CHRISTMAS STARS project for helping underprivileged children at Wylie House, St Theresa’s Children’s Home and Streetwise from SUNDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2013 and for the next few Sundays after that. Please give a child a gift this Christmas by taking a star off the Christmas tree at the back of the Church which will have the name of a specific child at one of the homes together with the school shoes required.
Members of the SVDP will be in the Parish hall after all Masses from Sunday 24 November and throughout Advent to sell the SCHOOL SHOES which correspond to these Christmas stars at only R70.00 per pair. You can purchase your shoes, wrap them at home and securely attach the Star with the child’s details on it.
Some of the stars on the tree will be for clothes needed as well for the Homes - girls’ pyjamas and boys’ white school shirts, grey long trousers and school socks. In the case of the clothes, the SVDP will not be selling these this year so if you could buy these and then please bring the wrapped clothes/shoes with the corresponding stars attached back to Mass the following Sunday and place in the box provided at the back of the Church by Sunday 15th December or drop at the Parish office.
Also from Sunday 24 November the SVDP will be selling the CHRISTMAS BUCKETS for the 90 families at Ottawa which will be distributed to them in December. PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF FAITH
Almighty God,
by the outpouring of Your Grace
make the Year of Faith a time of renewed commitment for us;
a time for us to turn back to You with loving hearts,
a time to embrace, once again, the faith handed on to us by the Apostles
and taught by Your one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
May this Year of Faith renew us in the mission which Your Son Jesus
handed on to us to proclaim the Gospel Message and so lead others to You.
May this year be a time that strengthens our relationship with You,
deepens our friendship with Your Son, Jesus Christ,
and fills us with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
May we grow strong in faith, increase in hope
and live Your Holy Gospel with love.
We ask all this through Christ Our Lord. AMEN

The Feast of Christ the King Year C24th November, 2013 Leslie Forrest
Commentary
Gospel (Lk 23 : 35-43)It seems almost strange at the end of November to be brought back to the events of Good Friday. Yet it is always good to be brought back to the very heart of our faith and to read again of the cross with the inscription: ‘this is the King of the Jews’.
As we reflect on Christ’s kingship we’re forcefully reminded just how different it is from that of King David or any other king. The language used by Luke represents the preaching of the early Church – where the crucifixion was seen very clearly as the fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies about the suffering of the righteous Servant of the Lord.
Allusions to the Psalms are central in Luke’s account. The dividing of the clothes and the jeering are described in words from Psalm 22:7,18, and the gift of ‘sour wine’ echoes Psalm 69:21. Luke clearly treats the offer of the sour wine, not as an act of kindness, but as part of general mockery. In a few short sentences the evangelist portrays ‘the different attitudes of the spectators: the vulgar curiosity of the crowd, the contemptuous derisions of the rulers, the callous frivolity of the guard, the bitter invective of the criminal’ (G.B.Caird).
The account of the two criminals could not be more telling as we try to understand the true nature of Christ’s kingship. The sign might say over his head ‘The King of the Jews’ but the leaders, having ensured his crucifixion, had to scoff as they justified their actions in getting rid of the blaspheming trouble-maker, the soldiers’ mockery was their way of coping with death- though not all were to remain immune to what was happening and the centurion’s response to his death ‘truly this was the Son of God’ is profound. ‘And the people stood by, watching’, Luke tells us. And maybe that says it all – of them, of us!
