Gifted and Talented Time Line

July / □ Continue scoring tests given in the spring
□ Make adjustments to procedures and/or processes from previous year’s experience
□ Transfer documents from elementary to middle
□ Update GT lists
□ Plan GT calendar for upcoming school year & prepare any materials for teachers
August / □ Give Gifted & Talented update/reminder handout at 1st faculty meeting
□ Review schedules/class placements of all Primary Talent Pool (PTP) and GT students & notify teachers of gifted students in their classrooms
□ Schedule and conduct individual testing of 4th graders using the Woodcock-Johnson, SAGES, or other measures as necessary & score
□ Add new GT GSSP to all 4 – 12 identified students’ PLP in IC. Email teachers a reminder to complete the jGSSP by the deadline.
□ Finalize GT schedule(s) for the year
□ Shred old files from students who graduated 2 years ago
□ Prepare student and parent needs surveys – decide on format
September / □ Begin classes, including support for EXPLORE & PLAN testing*
□ Collect GT services teacher information from IC and begin updating all records by data entry into IC
□ Identification continues for all GT areas
□ Parent & Students needs annual assessment prepared in Google docs and placed on school webpage for easy access
□ GT Placement Committee meets to review & place newly identified GT students
□ GT folders created for all newly identified GT students/updated for previously identified students & entered into IC
□ Schedule parent meetings for newly identified GT students
□ Print GSSP’s & letter about GT to be sent home with the 1st 9 weeks report card(include assurances & grievance process)
□ Reminder to all teachers to post GT comments for 1st 9 weeks report card
October / □ Prepare for Open House & access to the Google docs survey at each school
□ Finish up any parent meetings for new GT placements
□ Audit comments by teachers through the use of IC
□ 7th grade Duke Talent Search (TIP) begins & parents are notified
□ Review state testing data for gaps, inconsistencies, etc…
□ ACT prep offered now through February
November / □ Check grades for underachieving gifted students &provide counseling and/or intervention
□ Parent & Students needs survey results compiled and reviewed. Services may be adapted due to input received.
□ Begin planning for GT week in February
December / □ State data extraction from IC
□ Reminder to all teachers to post GT comments for 2nd 9 weeks report card
□ Governor’s Scholar support for high school students & serve on panel to select
January / □ Audit comments by teachers through the use of IC
□ Finalize any 2nd semester schedules
□ Prepare GT report for the Board of Education
February / □ Present GT report to the board
□ Focus on identifying students with gifted potential that may have been previously overlooked, consult teachers
□ Begin informal screening of all 3rd graders in preparation for 4th grade identification(Circles, NNAT)
□ Ask 3rd grade teachers for an informal assessment of their students and which students have strengths in what areas
March / □ Send home permission to test letters to potential 3rd grade gifted students
□ Reminder to all teachers to post GT comments for 3rd 9 weeks report card
□ Audit comments by teachers through the use of IC
□ Begin scoring 3rd grade assessments for identification next year
April / □ Double check all IC data for accuracy
□ Give OLSAT, Torrance, and other measures as necessary to 3rd graders whose parents granted permission *as time allows, continue process in fall
□ Begin process of identifying kindergarten students for PTP. Teacher recommendations will be accepted, parents will complete a survey, and kindergarten students will be added to the PTP & entered in IC
□ Folders created for new PTP students
□ Prepare & send home summer opportunity letters in mid-April
May / □ Reminder to all teachers to post GT comments for 4th 9 weeks report card
□ Print out GT comments sheet for the year for each GT students & file
□ Run an errors report on all GT data before the state deadline of May 14th
□ Enter end dates after the last day of school for all exiting PTP students
□ Continue scoring assessments for identification
□ Gather continuous progress data for K-5 students and 6-12 as needed
June / □ Make notes for the beginning of next year
□ Complete the GT Summative Report online & submit by deadline

*Classes include but are not limited to: 3rd thru 5th grade language enrichment with the Junior Great Books program, 4th thru 8th grade enrichment during RTI, CCES & CCMS student leadership class & service activities, ACT Prep & advanced opportunities application & scholarship help at CCHS

>Monthly attendance of CIA meetings is an additional responsibility.
