Democratic Republic of the Congo

UN Commission on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

1. Enhancing Trade and Development of Landlocked Developing Member States through Multinational Development Projects

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) believes that through the collaboration of Central African countries the trade barriers created by the landlocked nature of the DRC can be overcome. This collaboration among countries will facilitate not only the growth of economy within the DRC, but it is predicted that a positive economic growth will occur for a number of the developing countries that the DRC wishes to include in its plan of action. Through the analysis of the situation it has been determined that access to ports on both sides of the continent will provide the DRC with the necessary resources for such a growth to occur.

Our primary goal is to create a network of access through the continent starting with an agreement among Central African countries that will detail the trade arrangement in regards to the standard of products that are to be imported and exported. In addition, we will address the domains in which each country will function. For example, countries that excel at the production of sugarcane will be deemed the primary exporters of the commodity in order alleviate any occurrence of competition among involved parties. To further develop this system, we wish to implement a standard tariff to maintain consistency and again facilitate the growth of a fair environment. We understand that in order for high levels of interdependence to work we must create a highly regulated system for an equal distribution of economic development to be achieved. Currently the DRC does not have any concrete system in place to benefit the development of trade, and it is through this plan of action we hope to remedy that. Starting with the establishment of a firm trade agreement has been attained we will begin to execute the physical aspects of our plan. This will first include the construction of railways through countries that have agreed to work with the DRC. The railways will run from major ports located on both sides of the African continent and continue into the DRC where a highly developed network of railways and stations will be constructed to ensure that the entirety of our countries receives appropriate access to necessary resources. Within the DRC there are a large number of air trade routes, we feel that this is an underutilized resource within our country. To continue the growth of our country we will further develop these resources so that we may take advantage of the efficiency of aerial transportation.

We understand that these goals will require a large amounts of monetary funds in order to execute them successfully, as a result, it is our hope to tap into resources provided by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to countries such as ours and those who surround us, who wish to further their development. International support and aid is crucial for the success of such a project. We understand that collaboration will only benefit our country and the contentment which encompasses it, it is our hope that through the success of the DRC a ripple effect will occur and further development of the continent will ignite.

2. Examining the Impacts of Additive Manufacturing on Global Trade

Dominican Republic of Congo is a landlocked country, which faces issues with importing and exporting goods. New technology like additive manufacturing can help solve the issues they face with importing and exporting of goods. Additive manufacturing is a system that allows for 3D printing. Additive manufacturing can be used for medical implants, dental restoration, automobile, fashion, etc. Incorporating additive technology into the Dominican Republic of Congo will be a slow process, however once implemented it can help improve the lives of the citizens.

If Additive manufacturing was implemented into the Dominican Republic of Congo you would see massive changes towards their Global Trade Network. Dominican Republic of Congo would be allowed to gain some independence by not having to rely on others countries to supply their goods. Dominican Republic of Congo is a landlocked country so in order to receive any imports or release any exports they rely on the nations around them for that help and support. There would also be a reduction in the amount of products needing to be imported into Dominican Republic of Congo as well.

Additive Manufacturing is essential to improving Dominican Republic of Congo’s transportation. 3D-printing can be used the mass production of vehicles or creating certain parts needed to build or fix a vehicle or a boat. With an increase in transportation devices, this increases the ability to export more goods at a faster rate. Having the ability to export more goods would bring in more money to the Dominican Republic of Congo boosting their economy greatly. Besides actually exporting the goods they will have more access to collecting goods as well. Dominican Republic of Congo relies on goods for export from agriculture, forestry, mining and fishing. Additive manufacturing can also help improve the productivity of agriculture as well. The 3D printing technology can be used for creating farming tools this help provide people of Congo with easier access to tools and making tools more affordable. If all the community has access to farming equipment they will be able to farm for themselves and as well as for profitable reasons. Improved agriculture would approve the economy as well and transportation would make it easier to disperse and export the product.

Overall, additive technology would be an essential tool in improving the Dominican Republic of Congo’s economy. Additive technology can be manipulated for many different reasons like transportation and agriculture uses. These improvements to society would overall improve the lives of the people as well as improving the import and export system in place. It would be a slow process implementing them into their society given their price tag, however was they were in place they would be able to pay back themselves.
