The North Carolina Institute for Early Childhood Professional Development and Child Care Services Association are proud to announce the availability of cash and recognition awards to exemplary early care and education programs that value and recognize the importance of teacher education. Three-, four- and five-star child care programs that have earned 5 or more education points on their rated license on or before December 31st 2006 are eligible and invited to apply this year.

Awards may be issued in cash amounts of up to $6,000 (amount is determined by program size) and can be used to:

·  Help off-set the financial costs associated with participation and/or sponsorship in teacher education.

·  Provide an incentive or bonus reward for staff that has completed coursework in early childhood education.

·  Support the costs associated with other professional development opportunities.

To be considered for an award your program must:

·  Complete all required (3) sections of the application included in this mailing. If your program has multiple sites, a separate application must be submitted for each licensed facility.

·  Mail your application to Child Care Services Association, PO Box 901, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Mailed applications must be post marked by Wednesday, April 25, 2007. If you choose to hand deliver your application, please deliver it to 1829 East Franklin Street, Building 1000, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007.

The awards will be presented on Friday evening June 22nd at the Durham Marriott, Durham, NC and the winners will be notified by Friday, May 25th. Assistance with travel, lodging and dinner costs will be available to award winners.

If you should need assistance preparing your application or accessing the web site, contact your local child care resource and referral agency, your nearest Smart Start partnership office, the early childhood program at your local community college or the family/consumer sciences agency at your county Cooperative Extension office. **Please Note: Applications cannot be accepted electronically.
