Explanatory Notes

. Teachers should refer to the Community Studies Curriculum Statement for detailed guidance when completing the assessment plan. Additional pages (which should not generally be necessary) should conform to the layout of the pro forma.
. The program rationale (page 2) should clarify the broad purpose of the particular program and its intended student group. Teachers need to clearly indicate the level of negotiation that is appropriate for their particular student group. Negotiation that has already occurred and/or planned negotiation activities should be described. This will influence the assessment decisions that are reflected in the assessment plan.
. SSABSA will respond to assessment plans in accordance with the MAPP and the specific criteria for assessment plan approval detailed below.
. Special provisions requests by students for a variation to the school assessment will be considered against the approved assessment plan.
. Curriculum Statement Variant Code (pages 2-3)
A number of program variations (and hence assessment plans) can be developed from each Curriculum Statement. These ‘variant’ programs should be coded on the pro formas as A, B, C, and so on - not by the local names that schools often use to describe them.
. The program from which this plan is derived must make provision for students to undertake writing for the SACE writing-based literacy assessment.
. The program from which this plan is derived may make provision for students to complete all or part of the work-related studies requirement.
. Curriculum Statements generally require three to five different forms of assessment (e.g. practical work, examinations, research projects, investigations, essays). These are described as assessment types or assessment procedures. During the program a particular assessment type may be used several times. Most plans will use between five and ten tasks to accommodate 1-unit and 2-unit programs.

Checklist for Assessment Plan Writing and Approval

The contract is both a program of work and an assessment plan. It should be developed on the basis of negotiation and incorporate the objectives of the Curriculum Statement. The following checklist will help students, teachers, and moderators to ensure that all details are clearly defined on the contract. This contract should show:
. an explanation of what is to be included in the journal (e.g. 2 entries per week, reflective entries, lists,
timelines, stick-ins, sketches);
. details of the preparatory group activities:
Tasks
Outcomes
Written evaluation (e.g. form of writing, number of words)
. details of the community project:
Topic and outcome(s)
Specific tasks (group tasks if applicable and individual tasks)
Community involvement
Feedback details
Written Evaluation (e.g. form of writing, number of words)
