Church Law requires that only Catholics in good standing are eligible to be Godparents. No Baptisms will be scheduled during Lent.

Anointing of the Sick: We offer this sacrament to those who are seriously ill, at home or in the hospital. We urge you to contact the office before someone goes to the hospital for an operation. (A priest may not be available later)

Ministry of the Sick: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick, upon request. The bedridden or chronically ill can be placed on the “Eucharistic Ministers” visitation schedule.

Wedding: Engaged couples must make arrangements in person, at the office at least six months in advance.

Parish Membership: We welcome all new members to our parish. Please register at the office, by phone or in person. Registration forms are available at the entrances to the Churches. Ash Wednesday is March 1, 2017. Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are days of Fast & Abstinence. Fridays in Lent are days of Abstinence. Fasting requires that only one full meal be taken per day by those between the age of 18 & 59. Two other small means may be taken during day to maintain physical strength but these two meals should not equal a full meal. Abstinence prohibits those ages 14 & older from eating meat on a particular day.

The sick are comforted just knowing that we pray for them. Please remember these members of our Parish Family, who are ill, in your prayers: Mickey Foster, Beverly Lewis, Ray Mackey, Aidan McElgunn, Sheila Dahlke Moore, John Mecca, Richard Curinga, Susan Rose, Michael Boddie, John Boddie, James Boddie, Kathy Farrey, Art Farrey Sr., Ed Lent, Margaret Hesselgrave, Colin Lent, Eddie Lent, Sean Flaherty, Joao Manino Vaz, Marilu Selicco and Dan Keon who are sick.

SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Sirach 15:15-20

This passage from Sirach gives strong, unequivocal emphasis to free will in every person. Before each of us is set, sin or virtue, life or death, and each of us are free to choose the one or the other.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:6-10

Paul explains to the Corinthians that there are two different kinds of wisdom – the wisdom of God and the wisdom of the world. The wisdom of God is mysterious, but this wisdom has been revealed “to those who love him” through the Spirit.

Gospel: Matthew 5:17-37

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells the people he has come to fulfill the law. He speaks strongly against murder and anger, against adultery and lust, and against false oaths and lies. He warns the people that unless their virtue exceeds that of the Pharisees, they “will not enter the kingdom of God.”
