A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO DESIGNATE THE MONTH OF JUNE 2015 AS MEN’S HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH IN THE PALMETTO STATE.
Whereas, despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of five fewer years than women, with AfricanAmerican men having the lowest life expectancy; and
Whereas, educating both the public and healthcare providers about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early detection of male health problems will result in reducing the rates of mortality from disease; and
Whereas, men who are educated about the value of preventive health are more likely to participate in health screenings; and
Whereas, men who take ownership of their health by regularly seeing, and building a relationship with, their healthcare provider can improve their overall wellbeing; and
Whereas, Men’s Health Week, June 1521, 2015, focuses on a broad range of men’s health issues, including heart disease; diabetes; erectile dysfunction; and prostate, testicular, and colon cancer; and
Whereas, the State of South Carolina encourages all fathers, husbands, sons, and brothers to take the time to participate in preventive screenings and regular health checkups for the sake of individual health and for the wellbeing of South Carolina families. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, designate the month of June 2015 as Men’s Health Awareness Month in the Palmetto State.
