Tournament Rules

  1. All Hockey Canada and OWHA rules apply unless listed differently below.
  1. Team representatives must check in at the registration desk one (1) hour prior to your first game. OWHA teams may be requested to present a copy of their OWHA registration form upon request. Non-Ontario based teams MUST HAND IN a copy of their travel permit/sanction permit from their home hockey governing body. These requirements will be strictly enforced, as this is an OWHA sanctioned tournament.
  1. Teams must be available to play up tofifteen (15) minutes prior to regular scheduled game times.
  1. Game times - All round robin games will consist of three(3) - fifteen minute stop time periods. The last five minutes of the third period will be running time when there is a five goal difference or more. Timing will revert to stop time if the difference is reduced to less than five goals. The final games on Sunday will be 15-15-20 stop time.There will be one 30 second time-out per team in all games.
  1. Flooding Schedules. Flooding will take place after every second period. Please be aware of the flood schedule. For odd games the floods will take place prior to the start of the game and after the second period. For even games the flood will take place between the first and the second period. The timing of each flood is listed on the schedule. The tournament committee reserves the right to adjust the flood scheduleif games start to run more than 15 minutes behind schedule. For the Final games on Sunday there will be a flood prior to the game and after the second period for each game.
  1. Overtime: - There will be no overtime in the round robin games. There will be overtime in the final games.Overtime will be sudden death, stop time. Overtime will consist of three minutes of 4 on 4, followed by three minutes of 3on3. Teams do not switch ends. Fast face-off rules will apply. No rest between periods. If after two overtime periods the game remains tied, a 3 player shootout begins. One player from each team will start at centre ice and skate in on the opposing goalie. Shootout on each goalie will take place simultaneously. If the game remains tied after three shooters, the shootout becomes sudden death. Shooters cannot repeat until all skaters of a team have taken a shootout attempt. Any player serving a penalty that has not expired by the end of sudden death may not participate in the shootout.

In the case of penalties during overtime, no team shall go down to less than 3 skaters and the non-penalized team will add a player if required (3 on 3 becomes 4 on 3) until the next stoppage in play after the penalty has been served.

  1. Minor penalties will be two(2) minutes. Penalties that are being served at the end of the third period will continue until completion during overtime if applicable.
  1. OWHA minimum suspensions will be enforced. Each team is still responsible to inform their own Regional OWHA Rep and get clearance to play.
  1. No body-checking in any division.
  1. The center redline will only be in effect for icing infractions. (No center red line for 2 line passes).
  1. Thehome team will wear their light colored sweaters.
  1. Divisional Format: There is a six team Intermediate (U21) division and a six team Midget (U17) division. All teams play four games in the round robin within their division. Upon conclusion of the round robin, the top two teams in each division move on to the final. In addition there is a consolation final for the third and fourth place finishers in the Intermediate/U19 division only. Details can be found in the schedule.
  1. Two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a tie.
    There will be no overtime during round robin games.
  2. Teams can only get credit up to a maximum of a 5 goal differential for the purposes of tiebreakers. Goals scored by the losing team will determine the score being used for the standings. For example for an 8-2 game result, a score of 7-2 will be recorded in the standings.
  3. Tie Breaker Rules:
    If there is a tie in points after round robin games, the following criteria will be used to break any ties:

A)Number of wins

B)Record against other tied teams

C)Goals for minus goals against (Plus / Minus )

D)Goals for divided by goals for and goals against (GF) / (GF+GA)

E)Least goals against

F)Least penalty minutes

G)Fastest goal in round robin play

H)Coin Toss

*** In case of a multi-teamtie in points (more than 2 teams),

tie-breaker rule B only applies if ALL teams in the tie have faced each other. ***
