  • Consultant.

04/2006 to Present: Eclipse Aerospace

  • 09/2009 to Present: Senior Vice President. Engineering. Leader of the engineering organization.
  • 04/2006 to 08/2009: Senior Director, Chief Engineer. Served as an integral part of the leadership team to provide engineering and technical guidance. The aircraft was FAA certified in September 2006. The first production aircraft delivery occurred in January 2007. Over 250 aircraft had been delivered when the company went bankrupt and ceased operation in March 2009. Post-FAA certification development programs included: certification of a performance improvement package which included extended wing tip tanks and drag reduction improvements of 8%, resulting in the aircraft meeting the performance and range guarantees made to customers; certification of new displays and avionics systems with all new suppliers in less than one year;certification for Flight into Known Icing;and certification in Europe, Australia and India.

1999to 2006: The Boeing Company

  • 2006: Director. Test & Evaluation. Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, Southern CA. Led the C-17 Test and Evaluation IPT organization to meet its quality, technical, schedule and cost goals and objectives, and partnering with the C-17 Air Vehicle IPT and functional counterparts. Provided program management leadership and direction to 20 managers and 220 employees for test activities conducted across the C-17 enterprise, including Edwards Air Force Base flight test. Served as the functional director for test and evaluation for Boeing Air Force Systems in Southern CA with 500+ employees. Responsible for all T&E facilities, capital, processes and tools for function and programs.
  • 2003 to 2006: Director. Airplane Level Integration. Long Beach, CA. 717 Engineering. Responsible for leadership of airplane integration activities for the 717 commercial aircraft program, including management of the 717 engineering budget. This included the design, test, production support, planning, and tooling organizations. Specific responsibilities included: managing the 717 engineering and test work statement within cost and schedule for production, fleet support, and marketing and sales support, encompassing management of both 717 direct employees and support by outside divisions such as Commercial Aviation Services, Integrated Defense Systems and Phantom Works;co-chairing of the 717 program Change Control Board with authority to approve aircraft configuration changes on behalf of the 717 VPGM; and managing the 717 derivative and product development activities.
  • 2001 to 2002: Director. 717 Systems. Long Beach, CA. Managing the Electrical, Mechanical, and Avionics Engineering departments with a combined department headcount of 150 engineers and support staff.
  • 1999 to 2001: Senior Manager/Director. 717 Airplane Level Integration, 717 Engineering. Long Beach, CA. Progressive levels of responsibility including leadership of up to 250 people and the following departments: Design Office, Aerodynamics, Certification Office, Safety & Reliability, Customer Engineering, Flight Test, and Flight Operations.
  • 1999: Chief Engineer. MD-80/MD-90 Programs. Long Beach, CA. Internal engineering leadership of the MD-80 and MD-90 programs. Co-chaired the Program Change Board until the last MD-80 & MD-90 production airplane delivery. Extensive customer interface.

1983to 1999: McDonnell Douglas

  • 1995 to 1999: Chief Design Engineer. MD-90 Saudi Arabian Airlines Program. Program management of engineering from pre-ATP through certification, delivery and fleet support. This was a uniquely configured version of the MD-90 with over fifty major changes including new cockpit displays, new flight management system and other avionics and interior upgrades. Managed the engineering equivalent headcount budget of ~285 heads. Extensive customer contact and communication throughout the program including configuration definition. Supported the program manager and director of contracts in the development of proposals and negotiation of business agreements with the customer. Supported the customer in resolving in-service technical issues for their fleet of aircraft.
  • 1987 to 1995: Principal Staff Engineer/Deputy Chief Design Engineer. MD-80/MD-90 Program. Management of MD-80 product improvement programs. Leadership of MD-90 systems design from initial airplane design through certification, delivery, and customer support. Leadership of a specially created Certification Council for FAA and JAA certification of the MD-90.
  • 1983 to 1987: Lead Engineer/Manager. Flight Test. Long Beach, CA. Leader of the group of engineers responsible for planning, conducting and analyzing aerodynamic and structural flight tests for airplane development and certification. FAA Designated Engineering Representative (“DER”) – company and consultant.

1982 to 1983: Civil Aviation Authority, U.K.

  • Flight Test Engineer. Responsible for evaluation and approval of airplanes applying for certification in the United Kingdom.

1979 to 1982: McDonnell Douglas, Long Beach, CA

  • Senior Engineer. Flight Test. Responsible for planning, conducting and analyzing flight tests for development and certification of MD-80 and KC-10.
