PTSO Board Meeting Minutes

October 22, 2015

Attendees: Meg Stevens, Julie Tiller, Martha Ball, Laine Orcutt, Karen Holubek, Stefanie Bowen, Sarah Hartung, Caroline Furman, Melissa Harwood

Treasurer’s Report – Checking Account balance is $4550. We made $756.71 on the dance. We have broken even on the magnets and sticker sales. We received a check from Publix for $348.98.

Secretary’s Report - The website is up to date with meeting dates, minutes, spirit night dates, board meeting dates, and a link to the registration form. Facebook is a good way to reach parents while Twitter is a good way to reach the students.

Membership – The next opportunity for membership sales will be at the 2nd semester Open House. We would like to have a “Guidance Night” in conjunction with the open house. Meg will get with Mr. Evans on a date. Teachers would like it at the beginning of the semester.

Mr. Eagle Pageant update –

·  Date for the pageant is Monday, January 25 at 6:30.

·  Letters to teachers and registration forms will go in teacher boxes on 10/22. Extra registration forms will be given to Mrs. Flowe in the Media Center.

·  Meg will approach Mr. Drinkard about being the teacher sponsor and point man for Mr. Eagle.

Spirit Club –

·  The Spirit Club helped with the Homecoming Dance and we had more than 200 students attend. It was a big success and the kids had a great time.

·  There will be a Super Spirit Sonic Night on November 3rd.

·  Officers will be elected soon.

Hospitality

·  Laine delivered a Keurig coffee maker and extra K-cups to the mail room for the teachers.

·  We will do a Thanksgiving treat for the teachers in November. “Thanks a Latte”???

Fundraisers

·  The next Zaxby’s night is November 10th. Kelly Addy is looking into scheduling other nights.

·  Julie Schlageter is exploring a fundraiser with BiLo.

Other Business

·  Parents would like for awards and honors to be given out to 9th – 11th grades and not just the seniors. Students need these accolades to motivate them and for college admissions.

·  The Blood Drive will be November 23 - 24. The SGA will co-sponsor this. We are waiting for exact times so we can send out a SignUpGenius for volunteers.

·  Mrs. Hite is exploring the idea of creating an International Club. Everyone was very excited about this.

·  Parents continued to raise concerns about the band. They wish they would play more at games, perform at half time, and participate more with school spirit (ie. At the student tailgate, basketball games)

·  Parents are hoping that the yearbook has more pictures in it this year and less words. The sports pictures were tiny and the clubs didn’t have group pictures or the members listed.

·  We need more parents that are willing to take on leadership roles with PTSO.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is Wednesday, November 18th at noon. Georgiana Ballenger and Karen Holubek will provide our lunch.
