Roundup High School cordially invites you to our

Class B/C Invitational Speech, Drama, and Debate Tournament on December9, 2017.

(only BC schools are invited, A and AA in the area should consider the meet at Billings Central. Contact Ashley Nelson for details )

Non-Binding Pre-registration Due ASAP:

Please let us know your approximate number of participants as soon as possible so we can try to make this a relatively painless process. Please email rough numbers for each event to the contact information below. Better to err to the side of a larger team.

Registration:

Register at Roundup High School (525 6th Ave. West) between 8:00 am and 8:30 am. An entry fee of $5.00 will be assessed for each participant. Final registration must be emailed, received (if mailed) or faxed by Monday, 4December 2017. Fees will be based on participants registered at that time plus drop penalties and add fees on the day of the meet. Contact information is as follows:

Each school may have a maximum of three (3) entries in each event. A drop fee of $5.00 will be assessed for each contestant dropped the day of the meet. If space allows, participants may be allowed to add for a fee of $5.00 the day of the meet (The maximum per event per school remains in effect.) There will be NO double entry at this event.

MHSA RULES:

All events will be conducted in accordance to the MHSA Handbook with the following EXCEPTIONS:

  • Assistant coaches will be placed in the judging pool should we need emergency replacements. Previous students who have not been out of high school over one year may be called upon to judge rounds. In these cases, we will ensure that they do not judge competitors from their home school or their past event (ex: past drama competitor will judge a speech event)
  • Coaches are encouraged to attend preliminary rounds with the exception of debate. To attend a debate round prior to Finals, please contact me before the meet.
  • Tabbing / Sweeps will be assigned to Head Coaches.

LD Debate topic will be the September/October topic:

Resolved:Wealthy nations have an obligation to provide development assistance to other nations

Policy Debate topic will be:

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

Extemporaneous topics:

MEALS:

Snacks will be provided for judges, coaches and bus drivers at both locations.

Lunch will be provided for judges, coaches, and bus drivers at RHS only.

Concessions will be available.

Optional pre-order lunch menus for students will be provided with confirmation letters.

Speech events will be held at Roundup Elementary School (401 11th Ave East)* NOTE NEW LOCATION

Drama and Debate events will be held at Roundup High School (525 6th Ave. West)

All Final rounds will be held at Roundup High School

COMPETITION:

There will be three preliminary rounds and finals in all events. The schedule for the day is as follows:

Individual EventsExtemp Draw and Debate (Policy & LD)

Round 19:00 am 8:30 am

Round 210:45 am 10:15 am

Round 31:00pm 12:30pm

Finals3:00 pm 2:30 pm

Some events will have time between rounds, some will not have much. Time between Round 2 and 3 is increased for lunch. We have tried to allow enough time for everyone without too much for anyone. Please remind students to be respectful of other events still in progress and to remain in commons area when not in rounds.

Awards Assembly will be at Roundup High School gym as soon as possible after finals.
