Course Description
This course is an intensesummer course on the study of plane and solid geometry. It includes precise definitions, theorems, andpostulates relating to plane and solid figures. Students develop deductive reasoning skills as theycomplete basic proofs relating to these figures. Algebra is integrated throughout the course. Students study topics such as congruence and similarity; Properties of lines, triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles; Areas; Volumes; Coordinate geometry; and basic right triangle trigonometry.
Course Objectives
In this course, you will know and be able to:
Through communication, representation, reasoning and proof, problem solving, andmaking connections within and beyond the field of mathematics, students will:
- Analyze characteristics and properties of two and three-dimensional geometric shapes.
- Develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships.
- Define specify locations and describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry.
- Use representational systems
- Apply transformations and use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations
- Solveproblems using visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling.

Other Course Materials: iPad (fully charged), notebook or binder with lined paper, graphing paper, protractor, compass, dividers, Green or Red pen, pencils & eraser.
Grading Policies:
Grades are based on a weighted system.
■ Semester Final. 20%
■ Quizzes 15%
■ Test / Midterm. 25%
■ Classwork/ Homework 35%
■ Attendance / Participation. 5%.
Make-Up Work: If you miss a test, a quiz, project or a significant classwork, assignment or a homework assignment (posted on my homepage) due to absence, you are expected to make it up. If absent, you will be given one day from the day you return to make up all the assignments. For more information see school summer brochure.
Late Work: Late work is not accepted for a grade, however is good to practice and stay on top of content.
Academic Integrity
Adherence to the Holy Family High School College Preparatory Honor Code promotes the level of academic integrity required within the school and assures that student work is judged fairly and evaluated against curricular standards and the work of others. It also insures that each student will demonstrate honesty and integrity in their assignments, testing, and participation in their learning process.
Violations to the Academic Honor Code may be found in the Parent-Student Handbook, and include (but are not limited to):
- giving or receiving answers to quizzes, tests, examinations, or any assignments the student is expected to submit as one’s own work.
- plagiarizing or copying the work of another and submitting it as one’s own work.
- plagiarizing of information from the Internet or other source and submitting it as one’s own work.
- using unauthorized aids in doing course work or testing
- doing another person’s work or allowing another person to do one’s work.
Failure to adhere to the Academic Honor Code will result in an automatic zero on the assignment, and/or any of theconsequences as defined in the HFHSCP Parent-Student Handbook and HFHSCP Administration.
Expectations
● You are expected to respect and value yourself, your school environment and the diversity of the HFHS community.
● You are expected to contribute to classes and work cooperatively whenever the situation requires.
● You are expected to come to class prepared and you are responsible for all missing work.
● You are expected to use pencil and show work for all mathematics assignments.
● You are to be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Otherwise you are late which may result in a detention.
