“Bully” Essay

Learning Goal: In Hoot, Roy, the new kid at school, is bullied by Dana. In schools, bullying is talked about a lot; nevertheless, we still see kids bullied. Your assignment is to write a five paragraph essay on bullying – discuss what bullying is, where it is seen, and what YOU can do to stop it. Be sure to use information from each of the articles given in class to support your ideas.

- voice is appropriate to audience – you are formal throughout your essay
- style and tone are engaging
Word Choice
- transitional words and phrases are used (i.e. such as, similarly, although, however, conversely, contrasting)
- there is no “list making” in your writing (then, then, then)
- slang and symbols are not used!
Sentence Fluency
- at least 5 sentences per paragraph
- sentences flow…your essay is easy to read aloud (try it before you turn it in)
- sentences have varied length and structure – some are long and some are short
- sentences begin differently!
Conventions
- spelling, punctuation, and grammar are correct
- paper is ready to share with readers
