NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS - UNIFORMED PATROL DIVISION

05/01/08, 722Northeast 8 Street, Robbery by Sudden Snatching,08-17156

The victim was standing outside his apartment when the suspect approached and grabbed a CD player from the victim and smashed it on the ground. The suspect then ripped a gold plated chain from the victim’s neck and fled.

ISD: This case was assigned and investigated by a detective. The detective showed the victim a photo line up, but the victim was unable to identify the suspect. There are no other leads or evidence at this time for the detective to follow up. This case has been closed pending further information.

05/02/08, 509 West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Walgreen’s, Armed Robbery, 08-17219

The suspect approached the cashier, displayed a handgun tucked into his waistband, and demanded money. The cashier complied and the suspect fled.

ISD: This case was assigned and investigated by a detective. There was no evidentiary value to the video surveillance, no latent prints of value and no traceable evidence. There are no other leads or evidence at this time for the detective to follow up. This case has been closed pending further information.

05/03/08, 900 Southwest 3 Street, Armed Robbery, 08-17402

The victim was walking along the street when the suspect exited a vehicle brandishing a knife. The suspect took the victim’s purse and fled. There were no injuries.

ISD: The victim is unable to identify the suspect in this incident. There were no latent prints recovered and there was no traceable evidence taken, so this case has been closed pending further information.

05/03/08, 720 Northwest 9Avenue, Hallandale High School, Burglary, 08-17369

Several juveniles were observed on school grounds while the school was closed and one suspect entered a portable classroom. Upon seeing police, the suspects ran. One suspect was caught and arrested. Two other suspects were detained and identified.

ISD: This case was investigated and sworn taped statements were obtained. The case was forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.

05/05/08, 730 A West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Armed Robbery, 08-17683

The suspects entered the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspects fled. Case 08-17687 is a related incident.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

05/05/08, 730 D West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Armed Robbery, 08-17687

The victim advised the same suspects from incident 08-17683 also entered his store brandishing a handgun and took his money.

05/07/08, 600 Northeast 8 Avenue, Robbery/Purse Snatching, 08-17954

The victim was walking along the sidewalk when the suspect approached and yanked her purse from her shoulder, knocking the victim to the ground. The suspect fled in a waiting vehicle. The victim was treated by rescue.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

05/08/08, 100 Northwest 8 Avenue, Residential Fire, 08-18091

Officers observed a fire in a trash pile on the side of a residence. Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the fire. The owner of the residence was arrested for hindering the fire fighters. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and there were no injuries.

ISD: This case was investigated and sworn taped statements were obtained. The case has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

5/08/08, 1300 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Robbery, 08-18197

As the victim was walking in the parking lot, she was approached by the suspect. The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled. There were no injuries.

ISD: There were no witnesses, no video surveillance and no traceable evidence taken from this incident. After having exhausted all investigative leads this case has been closed pending further information.

05/09/08, 400 Leslie Drive, Apt. 825, Suspicious Death, 08-18267

The victim was found submerged in his bathtub with the water running. The Medical Examiner’s office removed the victim for an autopsy and the investigation is continuing.

ISD: This case was investigated by our detective and the Medical Examiner. The cause of death was asphyxiation due to drowning and the manner of the death was accidental due to a stroke. This case has been closed.

5/11/08, 800 North Federal Highway, Ocean’s 11, Aggravated Battery, 08-18570

The suspect was asked to leave the lounge. While exiting the area, the suspect threw a metal object through the front door and began to leave the area in a vehicle. Employees approached the suspect whereby the suspect intentionally struck the victim with his vehicle. The suspect was located at a later time and arrested. The victim’s injuries were minor.

ISD: The detective met with the victim and witnesses and obtained taped statements. The suspect was charged accordingly and the file has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office.

05/12/08, 1080 West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Burglary, 08-18726

The suspect was observed in the compound attempting to steal a jet ski. A witness detained the suspect until police arrived and arrested the suspect.

ISD: The detective met with the victim and obtained a taped statement. The suspect was charged accordingly and the file has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office.

05/14/08, 301 Northwest 4 Avenue, Shooting, 08-18984

The victim informed police that during the night unknown suspects shot five bullets into his house. The suspects and motive are unknown and there were no injuries.

ISD: This case was assigned and investigated by a detective. There were no witnesses to the incident and no other leads for the detective to follow up, so this case has been closed pending further information.

5/15/08, 801 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Bank of America, Bank Robbery, 08-19216

The suspect entered the bank and demanded money. The teller complied and the suspect fled. There were no injuries.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

5/17/08, 1000 Southwest 3 Street, Hallandale Adult Center, Burglary 08-19518

Officers responded to an alarm and found a burglary occurred. While investigating, officers located three juvenile suspects on the school grounds. Further investigation revealed the suspects committed the burglary and were arrested.

ISD: The detective met with the victim and obtained a taped statement. The suspects were charged accordingly and the file has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

5/17/08, Hepburn Center, Arson, 08-19521

A small fire was discovered in a storage area. Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the fire. Investigation revealed the fire was ignited intentionally with minimal damage.

ISD: This case was assigned and investigated by a detective. There were no witnesses and no video surveillance to the incident and no other leads for the detective to follow up, so this case has been closed pending further information.

5/17/08, 200 McDowell Street, Arson, 08-19439

Officers observed a large fire in a trash container. Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue extinguished the flames. It was determined the fire was deliberately started and there were no injuries.

ISD: This case was assigned and investigated by a detective. There were no witnesses and no video surveillance to the incident and no other leads for the detective to follow up, so this case has been closed pending further information.

5/17/08, 428 Southwest 11 Street, Arson, 08-19445

Officer responded to a vehicle fire. Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue extinguished the fire and determined the fire was ignited intentionally. A suspect was observed fleeing from the scene.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

5/17/08, 1011 Northwest 8 Avenue, Robbery, 08-19534

As the victim was walking, a suspect approached from behind and grabbed the victim’s purse off her arm. The suspect then fled the scene without injury to the victim.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

05/21/08, 1900 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, SunTrust Bank, Bank Robbery, 08-20083

The suspect entered the bank and demanded money. The teller complied and the suspect fled. There were no injuries. It is believed to be the same suspect as 08-19216.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation. The F.B.I. responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The detective made BOLO sheets to circulate in the area and to the banks and we have utilized the media in an effort to identify the suspect.

05/22/08, 806 Northwest 10 Street, #2 and 701 Northwest 7 Avenue, #9, Burglary, 08-20216

Officers were advised of a burglary at both locations being committed by the same suspect. With the aid of citizens, the suspect was located and taken into custody.

ISD: This case was assigned to a detective who obtained taped statements from the victim and witness. The suspect was charged accordingly and the file has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office.

05/24/08, 221 Southeast 1 Avenue, Strong Armed Robbery, 08-20536

As the victim was walking, she was approached by suspects operating a red SUV. The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled the area. The victim suffered a minor laceration but refused rescue.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

05/28/08, 1201 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Wachovia Bank, Bank Robbery, 08-21146

The suspect entered the bank and demanded money. The teller complied and the suspect fled. There were no injuries. It is believed to be the same suspect as 08-19216 and 08-20083.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation. The F.B.I. responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The detective made BOLO sheets to circulate in the area and to the banks and we have utilized the media in an effort to identify the suspect.

05/30/08, 829 Southwest 5 Court, Aggravated Child Abuse, 8-21421

The juvenile victim was suspended from school for fighting. Upon arriving home, the father struck the juvenile between twenty-five to thirty times using a belt. The mother refused rescue for the juvenile. The father was arrested.

ISD: This case was assigned to a detective who obtained taped statements from the victim and witness. The suspect was charged accordingly and the file has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS - SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION (SOD)

The Special Operations Division is currently working a joint investigation with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

The SOD Detectives conducted several operations in the City of Hallandale Beach. During these operations, five suspects were arrested and charged with felony and misdemeanor narcotic violations. Approximately 28 grams of crack cocaine, 90 oxycodone pills and approximately 1 gram of cannabis was seized, with an approximate street value of $1,360.00. Additionally, one Mercedes vehicle with an approximate value of $10,000.00 and $1,393.00 in U.S. currency was seized.

The SOD Detectives assisted the Aventura Police Department with the execution of a search warrant. Three suspects were arrested for felony narcotic violations. Seized was approximately 14 grams of crack cocaine with an approximate street value of $500.00, two xanax pills with an approximate street value of $30.00 and six Viagra pills with an approximate street value of $ 60.00. Additionally, $3,850.00 in U.S. currency was confiscated for possible forfeiture along with one big screen television valued at $1,300.00.

DEPARTMENTAL VACANCIES

The Police Department had the following vacancies through the month of May: (3) Community Service Aides, (15) Police Officers and (1) Part-time Police Officer.
