All students will show respect to their superiors, higher belts/sashes and fellow students, in or out of class (i.e. at tournaments, at another kwoon branch, at all outside kwoon or club functions and/or social gatherings).
No senior or advanced student member is to take advantage of any beginner or junior student, in or out of the class.
  1. In other words, no unnecessary roughness, excessive or brutal contact.
  2. We are there to learn, not to cripple or kill one another.
When an instructor enters the training area to start the class training, all students’ activities will stop immediately.
  1. Each student will line up in his designated place and wait for the Sifu’s command to prepare for the kwoon prayer.
  2. Everyone should participate in saying the prayer. This is good for the spirit, mind, and body.
If at anytime, the Sijo, Sigung, Sifu, Sibak, Sisuk, or the Sihing first appears after the class has started, the first person (preferably the Sgt. at Arms) to see him will immediately command the whole class to perform the following formalities:
  1. Come to “Attention” – facing the instructor,
  2. “Salute” the instructor,
  3. “Pay respects”, in order of highest to lowest ranking, to the instructor, with the traditional KAJUKENBO handshake, before continuing, or when told by him/her to continue training.
If any instructor(s) from any kwoon, club, or studio comes to visit the class, and is recognized by any student in the class, he/she will call the class to attention and show respect by doing the same formalities as done with the class’ own instructor(s), as described above.
Once the class has started, there will be no talking, except to the instructor(s).
If a student comes in late (or has to leave early), that student will salute and shake the hands of all of the instructors – using the traditional KAJUKENBO handshake – and proceed to train or leave the area.
No street shoes are to be worn in the training area, for any reason.
  1. The only exceptions are kung fu shoes, rubber-soled shoes, tennis shoes and wrestling shoes.
  2. All shoes should have clean soles.

  2. Regulation t-shirts are: red for students and black for instructors.
Your belt or sash is a symbol or learning. Treat it with respect. Don’t drag it on the floor or ground when putting it on or taking it off.
  1. Never brag what type of belt you have or display it in a public place.
  2. When not using your belt or sash, it should be properly folded – not hung around the neck (or thrown carelessly on a table, chair, etc.) Put your belt in your gear bag immediately after training.
Since your belt is a symbol of knowledge, it must never be washed.
  1. Your belt symbolizes the knowledge you received in learning the Martial Arts.
  2. It should never be worn outside to “show-off” to the public.
  3. It should be worn only at the kwoon, at tournaments, during demonstrations on special occasions, or when practicing at home.

All male students must wear groin protective cup/strap equipment during training.
  1. If glasses are worn, they must be of shatter-proof type.
  2. Students may wear, within reason, karate or kung fu type equipment.

All students will be expected to practice self-control at all times.
