Upper Limb Fellowship- MP824JMG

We wish to appoint Senior Fellows for an Upper Limb Fellowship for a 12 month contract. The posts will rotate between Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Hand and Wrist Surgery on a 6 month rotation. There are two posts, one commencing February 2017 to February 2018 and the second August 2017 to August 2018. This post is based at The Avon Orthopaedic Centre. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within the department.

Hand Surgery - The post holder will be involved in a busy Hand & Wrist service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will be responsible to Mr Bhatia and Mr Amirfeyz. They will be expected to have some previous experience in Hand surgery. They will be expected to participate in the ongoing research and audit programmes of the department.

Shoulder Surgery - The post holder will be involved in a busy upper limb service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will be responsible to Mr Blewitt, Mr Crowther, Mr Packham and Mr Sarangi. They will be expected to have some previous experience in upper limb surgery. They will be expected to participate in the ongoing research and audit programmes of the department.

The postholder should be at the stage of a senior trainee – post exam – or immediate post CSST.

Orthopaedic services including elective procedures are provided at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) at Southmead Hospital. The AOC provides the main elective orthopaedic service for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire and also hosts inpatient surgery for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Healthcare Trust. Five theatres run all day six days a week with 28 consultants operating here. The local catchment population is approximately 500,000 but specialist services are also offered more widely across the region. The upper limb service covers all aspects of upper limb care and accepts tertiary referrals from a wide region.

Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. If in a training post this post is recognised for off programme training. Successful candidates will undergo training appraisal and assessment.
