Displaced Pets

Pet Advisory: Pet owners are advised to watch their pets closely around debris. Cuts can result from sharp pieces of debris and animals can become sick or die from ingesting building materials such as fiberglass insulation. Donations of pet supplies can be dropped off at Carmalita Street and Florida Street and at the Suncoast Animal Shelter on SanCasa Drive in Englewood.

CharlotteCounty & SarasotaCounty Missing Pets

Suncoast Humane Society will be taking lost reports (941-474-7884) from any residents that have lost a pet in southern Sarasota and all of CharlotteCounty.

We ask the general public to please allow us to help the companion animals of disaster victims first. Owners wishing to surrender their animals are asked to refrain from so doing at this time . We will provide crates or other assistance as needed to help keep the animals in their homes.

We are taking names and phone numbers from people willing to foster animals for this effort. We are also taking names and numbers from people that would be willing to volunteer at either SHS or the site in Port Charlotte. Call (941) 474-7884.

HOW TO DONATE: A fund has been established for the animal relief effort. You can help with a financial donation to that fund by:

1) Mail a check or money order payable to SHS to Suncoast Humane Society, 6781 San Casa Dr, EnglewoodFL34224. Indicate on the check that it is for disaster relief.

2) Call us at (941) 474-7884 during normal business hours to make a credit card donation.

LeeCounty

Caring individuals often do their very best to help animals in distress, particularly in times of disaster. We've received information about individuals setting up small animal rescue stations throughout the disaster area. It's important that the animals taken to these individual areas be taken to LeeCounty Animal Services.

Animal rescue efforts need to be centralized so that pet-owners who are separated from their pets have the opportunity to check on them and to know where to go to do that. There are also legal ownership issues that need to be kept in mind and protected. We're asking anyone who knows of or sees individual rescue efforts/stations or relief efforts to contact Lee County Animal Services so that the animals kept there can be relocated to a central area for claiming by owners.

They can call (239)432-2083 or visit their web page, linked, below, to provide us the information.

As the scope of relief efforts becomes clearer, we'll notify you of donation locations and volunteer needs as we identify them.
