Stage 4 Trade Training Centre

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative

Expression of interest

Educational Services invites schools in the Tamworth Operational Directorate to submit an expression of interest for the Trade Training Centre STEM initiative for Stage 4 students. This initiative aims to support schools to develop and implement an inquiry based project in STEM using existing Trade Training facilities.

School teams will participate in professional learning sessions and engage with school based implementation processes.

Principals are asked to nominate a team of three to lead this initiative in their school. Selected teams should:

  • include a member of the school who is prepared to make workplace industry links and two teachers from STEM based subjects to co-lead the initiative within their school.
  • attend a one day professional learning workshop.
  • design and implement a school based STEM inquiry project to be delivered making use of the Trade Training Centre facilities. The project must reflect real world practices linking to a local industry and be cross curriculum.
  • participate in ongoing professional learning via Adobe Connect to deepen the understanding of the process and strategies for classroom implementation.
  • implement and monitorlinks made to industry. Highlight the sustainability of the industry relationship to provide ongoing learning opportunities for students through evidence based reporting.
  • contribute to illustrations of effective practice, which will be developed and made available to all NSW Public Schools in the Tamworth Operational Directorate.

Dates and venues of professional learning will be confirmed with successful principals.

Selection details:

A selection panel will review each expression of interest and all schools will be notified of the outcome via email during Week 1 of Term 2.

This initiative is open to all schools in the Tamworth Operational Directorate. Grants of a minimum $2,000 will be available for successful schools.

All successful schools will receive targeted professional learning and ongoing support from Educational Services Advisors.

Eligibility

  • Principal approval and senior executive support
  • Initiative will target Stage 4 students and is to be embedded in current curriculum delivery rather than an additional activity offered to students.
  • Teacher commitment to successfully participate and complete the initiative (professional learning workshop, engage in ongoing professional learning via Adobe Connect, in school implementation sessions and evaluation workshop)

Schools will be required to complete the expression of interest document below.

Closing date for submission Friday 7 April 2017.
